I’ll admit that it is a name coach that doesn’t do online coaching. He just coaches the Pros.
My question is Does this happen often?
Are pro coaches willing to coach mediocre runners for the right price?

Similar story. My dentist shells out $150 per hour for his personal trainer and has a running coach as well. Why do old guys that aren’t even competitive pay for coaches? Great post by the way. Always laugh at 50 yr old dudes with “coaches”. Who ever needs a coach beyond HS? I know some who do “coaching” and they turn nobody down. If you have decent motivation, what good are coaches?
I remember some Ginger runner podcast where his wife, Kim, was saying how great her coach was and was telling her she needed to eat double the calories she was already consuming. Seriously we are all different and not sure how coaches preach about things that only work for themselves. Biggest scam ever in my book.
Some people just don't want to have to figure anything out for themselves, outside of their jobs.
Correction: You and his other patients (and insurance payments) pay $30K/yr for coaching.

I'm a dentist with a wife, 2 kids, a mortgage, and my own practice. I live a fairly frugal lifestyle. There's no way I could afford an extra $30k/yr for something as frivolous as a coach. I guess we've all got different priorities, but that's insanity.
Funny. I was JUST reading this right before I came here. This is how they afford it.

What a disheartening article to read. Unfortunately, charlatans and thieves are present in every profession under the sun. Thanks for the link.
When you're training for the most prestigious of all marathons, the West Wyoming marathon, you hire the best of the best.
Girl at the gym asked me if I would coach her , and I said" I was a level 5 coach, which is the top level" . I don't know what any level is or anything about coaching, but it led to sex , which was my goal.

Really experienced coaches can save the runner a lot of trial and errors time, and just get the runner to keep on running PB:s . Even a lot of 50 yr old dudes gets satisfaction out of running PB:s in their master age group .
become his training partner and reap the benefits of the training plan for nothing.

With all the information that's readily available now, and with training for running being relatively simple, anyone with sufficient interest and drive can and should be able to figure out how to do this on their own. And would more likely gain greater satisfaction from the journey.

Exactly!

Ever heard : "money talks, b.s. walks?
There are hobby joggers who pay relatively faster runners to be their "training partner." Why not an authority figure like a coach?
We live in a shallow, insecure, immature society. Authority figures are not only arbitrarily repsected, but sought out. When someone else is making the decisions and telling you what to do, it takes away all the responsibility and blame from yourself, and your ego can never take a hit.

I "am" an online coach. "Am" in parenthesis because I have rejected everyone that has approached me. I am an IAAF Level 5 coach. I don't know anything about someone that runs 5 hours for the Marathon?
It makes no sense to pay a coach that only works with professional runners!! They can not relate in any way to what your needs are. He would be better off going on-line and looking for an average Joe type runner coach that would understand him a little better.

You're doing it wrong, which your fellow dentist friends have no doubt been telling you. A dentistry license is a license to make money. Then again from all the suicides it may not be worth it to chase those extra dollars.

For quality of life dentistry may be better. Not on call. Nobody dies.
