She ran 1:14 last year and went more than a minute per mile faster this year.

What's this girl's track times?
I know of a 10 year old boy that ran 10 miles in 68:17 with a 5:00 1500m and 10:32 3000m.
So I'm assuming this girl would be significantly faster - fast enough to win USATF or AAU youth nationals.
I see the course was out and back. Any verification that she made it to the turn around? Looking at the results there seems to be a gap of those ahead and behind her....just saying.

The Pear Blossom has a lead bike with the top male and female runners, so there was definitely not short cutting here.
Article says she ran 5:05 for 1500m as a 9-year old on the track and 10:42 for 3000m.
Klamath Falls is at 4099' so that might help her development.
Are we sure of her age? Serious question.
For a 10 year old, her physique from a running perspective looks more advanced.
Even in the face, she looks older than a 10 year old, somewhat:

I guess it's comforting in a way that you have no idea what real 10-year-old girls look like. Developmental rates differ enormously, especially for girls at that age, but she doesn't look any different than half the girls of that age in my kid's class.
She wore 4% shoes, so her time adjusted is more like 65-67 minutes.
Her father coaches her, so safe to assume we won't hear much of her halfway through high school.
She'll have stress fractures by age 11 and washed up by 13.
Father has her at 60 MPW already at age 10 and hitting the gym hard.
This is even worse than usual because most pre-burnout girls are only doing shorter distances, this one is running longer distances and on pavement.

this is really impressive. I think this girl will become a great high school cross country runner.
But African kids run all the time. Everyday.
also ran the pear this weekend. won my age group (M15-19), meaning I ran a few mins ahead of her. Definitely talented, for a 5th grader to win the whole race and CR by 7 and half mins. I see her going places.

Training and running are not the same.
Where did you get the 60 mpw figure? Not in the story...?

Yes, because we have plenty of age-verified clean 10-year-old African performances to compare this too. lol.
But yeah, this girl is toast by 14. Forget college, she won't have any high school credentials.
Grace Ping holds a bunch of world records. She may have peaked at about 14. This girl is doing longer races so I would put her peaking around 13-14.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
