Noah Affolder had quite the performance at New Balance Nationals Indoor this past weekend. For those of you who don't know here's what went down.
4:06 split in a record-setting DMR championship(9:54)
4:06 split in a record-setting 4xMile Championship(17:01)
1:51 split in a 4x800 Championship(3rd win)(7:40)
Where do you guys think he should be ranked on MileSplit 50 and do you guys think this is an all-time great high school performance?
Sam Affolder greatest triple ever at nationals?

Didn't someone run a 3:53 or something once?

Ever heard of Lucas Verzbikas?

Yeah I think 14:06 NR, 8:40, 4:10 (and winning the team title by yourself) takes it -
Why did he only run relays and no individual events? Running just relays can never equate a GOAT performance.

Individual events wouldn't be Tinman certified. -
Was not the biggest Affolder supporter, he has had major folds. Indoor Nats dmr last year, Penn in an epic disaster.and Millrose this year.
However a big time weekend this weekend.
Very, very smooth runner and his 800 leg tonite was seemingly effortless at 1:51.2
He is good no doubt can also run low 840's for two miles. -

Nope. 3:50, 3:51, 3:52, and 3:54, but not 3:53. Or maybe someone did run a 3:53. Yeah, he did. They did. What effin' difference does it make?? -

He ran for his t-e-a-m. Watch the videos of the races, if you can. You can tell how thrilling it was for him to be a contributor on winning national championship teams, as it was when LV twice won NXN with him. He has now been on relay teams that have set all-time high school #1's four times (2017, 2018, and 2019 twice), a #2 once (2018), and a #3 once (2019). Maybe a #4 once in 2018, too. That's pretty spectacular.
So, he ran a 1600, a mile, and an 800 in 24 hours on Fri and Sat. I think he deserves a rest.
So, Sam Affolder isn't the GOAT performer at NBNI, in :('s opinion. I suspect Sam will be worrying more about sore palms from too many high-fives with teammates than about not getting votes for the GOAT performance. -
Affolder looks to be the next Grant Fisher.

German's 4:00, 8:34 an the night shift at Applebee's on the same day will always be the best high school triple.
-
Yes but Affolder will be running faster times in the long run.
-
No doubt he will join the club this year.

This is a good answer.
Also, I remember coming to practice one day and hearing about Webb’s district meet where he went:
1600 - 4:06.74
400 - 49.29
800 - 1:49.53
This was essentially a dual meet and he threw these times down in the span of less than 3 hours. Legend goes, his 1600 had something like a 1:56 last 800.
His teammate, Richard Smith, had a stellar day as well:
49.49, 1:55.21, 4:14.91 -

It was a 1:52 last 800, and all 3 events within 90 minutes. -

It was a 1:44 last 800, and all three events were simultaneous. -

That was actually pretty funny.
The crazy thing is, even if the events WERE simultaneous (meaning 400 and 800 times recorded during a 1600), he still could have placed pretty high in the 400 and still won the 800 and 1600. -

Crazy. I'll keep this in my back pocket if my kids ever get too cocky. "Yes, I know that you beat your brother in the 400m today. You've reminded us all several times. You know who you wouldn't have beat in the 400m? Alan MF Webb. Running the last lap of a 1600m. In the middle of a 400m/800m/1600m triple." -
No, of course it's not the greatest triple ever at nationals. His own teammate, Colton Bogucki, accomplished a similar triple (3:00, 4:09, 1:51) last year, and that wasn't the greatest triple either. Matt Rizzo has currently run 2:59 and 1:50 this weekend, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't follow up today in the 800. If he runs 1:51 or faster, that is easily a comparable triple. The real GOATs were people like Verzbicas, who ran 14:06, 8:40, and 4:10 in one weekend, and easily could've run faster in the mile but he was too busy winning.
