Personally, I have run fast enough in the past to have a part of me snobbishly laugh off what a 10.9 represents, both hand and even FAT. But, even the d-bag part of me gives way to acknowledge that 10.9 ain't half bad. Really, once you start getting into the low 11s FAT, you're probably "fast" on a certain general "true sprint" level. Would an 11.15 look good next to a 9.6? No. But...10.25 doesn't even look good next to 9.6, so, again. Relative.
To bring it full circle, I wouldn't call Symmonds fast in a sprint sense, but he's starting to get into weekend warrior sprint territory, which probably fits his training.
