Mike Elder. You can't have this thread without considering him. Tons of cross country hs state championships. Tons of DI athletes produced ... mostly in the ACC.
If you don't like him ... it's only cause we beat you.
one another thread someone posted the kranicks will not be coaching xc in the fall?? wow! i guess its the end of an era
all the minnesota coaches because they produce by far the most talent as compared to any other state in the country. That is a fact!
hahahahaahhaahaha
Van Rose of Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS
Several private coaches in the North Jersey Area (Hudson and Morris County Area) might be considered in this regard.
One of them has a rather loquacious cross country pole that he might reprise this fall.
i think everyone's replies can be summed up in one format:
[insert your coach here]
which makes this thread completely pointless.
Chuck Koeppen from Carmel High School in Indiana
I think the more important question is not who is the best coach, but how does a coach make a program successful?
Tom Heath, Christian Brothers (NJ)
He's not a current coach & unfortunately not around anymore, but I consider Verlyn Schmidt who coached Shawnee Mission South, KS... back in the day, to be one of the greatest coaches (distance & all-around)... EVER
State records & marks on the all-time lists all over the boards still stand from kids that were coached by this man... 20+ years later.

Big Al Seifarth...hands down.
the guy down in cinco ranch is coach derks. i live right down the road from the school. that guy has taken some major steps. hes probably had the best team in the nation for 2 years now. hes produced multiple national level contenders, and winners actually. recently, its coach derks. overall, i dunno. but my vote goes to coach derks, that guy talks about track and field nonstop.
i will be running with pat tyson in two weeks. ive heard he is a awesome coach
who's the coach at Cal Poly, seems like they always have great teams, or is this limited to great distance coaches?
fed was a jr. high coach now he coaches just club. including athleats like: Kevil Havel (5th in IL as frosh in xc and 3200), Amber stack (first IL xc), Ryan craven 4th IL state xc
Sydney McIntosh- Transit Tech Brooklyn NY.
Newton (York) Sessa (Syosset) Raczko (South Lakes)
Those three in my opinon are the best 3 highschool coaches right now in america.
