Interesting story behind a great Aussie athlete.
Edwards played competitive hockey growing up. Then started out in Olympic-distance triathlons & half-Ironmans. Consistent age-group winner in early 20s.
Starts competing half-marathons in 2014. Runs a 1:05.
Runs first marathon at Chicago last fall. Finishes in 2:16, behind just 5 American-born runners.
Some commenter made some noise about the competitiveness of a NZ race (and of course, ultrarunning).
5th place was Ryan Sandes, who won 2017 Western States, also Leadville, and all of the 4 Deserts races.
