Didn’t another triathlete run 2:29 at NYC last fall?

Malindi is an awesome lady for sure.

IIRC there is an Italian pro triathlete, I believe of very high tri-ranking, that has run well under 2:30. Maybe someone else can fill us in.

That would be triathlete/duathlete Sara Dossena, who debuted in the 2017 New York marathon with a 2:29:39, for 6th place.

Last year she was 6th in the European championships marathon with a 2:27:53.

Dossena was originally a runner who got into triathlon after cross-training on the bike and in the pool to recover from various injuries.

OP, your post is TOTALLY misleading. To call Emore a former triathlete is very misleading.

Now 38, she was a good miler for Stanford (4th in 2002). 4:02 1500 pb. So a runner first then triathlete and now a marathoner.

The title really should be something along the lines of " 38-year old former 4:02 1500 runner just ran 2:32, why can't Gwen?"

Chrissie Wellington, the four-time World Ironman champ, once ran 2:44 in the last leg of a Ironman triathlon.

If she had run a stand-alone marathon, in or near her prime...?

Actually she may still be doing triathlons so the title should have read

Alan Webb runs a 2:10 marathon. How are you referring to him? Former miler or former triathlon?

You know what the answer is and it's the same for Elimore who was a very well known athlete on the track while at Stanford.

It wasn't until she got away from that place and back with her HS coach that she ran 402, won a Golden League race, and ran in an Olympics.

Great. Good. Happy for her. Why do we have to knock one runner to celebrate another? This was a good run. I hope Gwen nails her next marathon attempt.

Where did Webb do 2:10? I only seen him do 1:13 as a rabbit pacer.

O yea too, as others mentioned Gwen was a runner prior to tri. The other females mentioned here did 70.3/140.6. so perhaps Gwen missed a step?

Webb hasn’t run 2:10. Rojo was saying if Webb hypothetically did run a 2:10, he would be celebrated as a miler turned marathoner, not a converted triathlete

What’s impressive here is not 2:32 but that it was 7 months post baby and at least 5 years away from running as a primary sport. I think OP just wanted to rehash the whole Gwen marathon failure thing which is unfortunate; can’t performances just stand on their own? With Malindi’s running credentials at the shorter stuff and an obvious talent to go long (8:57 Ironman and now this), I wouldn’t be surprised to see her run much faster if she sticks with it. I hope Gwen does crush her next one as well.

Webb was a triathalon? I never knew he was a race. I'd like to participate in the Alan Webb.

Indeed, Lananna was a horrible coach. Good thing she got away after 5 years. (Note to the non-trolls: this is sarcasm, Lananna is among the top 3 college coaches in NCAA history, and Malindi was there during the golden age of Stanford distance running.)
