How is this a thread? Only on LR....
I guess I’ll excuse it since it sounds like the OP is in HS.

Just wait until Hasay is 40. Yikes.
Could stress have something to do with it? Desi has a receding hairline. Shalane looks 50. Deena looks 60.
Amy and Kara both still look good.

I will keep that definition in mind for future reference.

Stop your nonsense.
Theyre both beautiful.
Imagine having to haul around a giant ass like me and the Kardashians when we reach 40 or so. Do you love cottage cheese?
Wear a hat when you run . Or sunscreen . And don’t be 0.1% body fat .
Not enough fat(both dietary and on their body) and too much sugar.

add sunglasses to your list
If they gained 20-30 pounds, their faces would look younger.
Nothing unusual. A lot of high performing athletes look like that at the end of their career.
I'm guessing you probably see them with little to no makeup on most of the time. I know many women who don't let anyone see them without their whole face being fixed up. Not to mention all of the botox women are getting these days, and I'm willing to bet Shalane and Deena are all natural. They both have extremely fair skin as well which doesn't do as well with sun exposure. But with all of that being said, I'm sure they still look better than 99% of women their ages.
They look shameful. I mean have they totally given up? Oh wait, they aren't 20 years old anymore and have been rockstars. So get the F over it. Ask them if you want to know and I'm sure they'll say they prefer the life they have.
People like you are exactly the type to spend hours on your “hair” “nails” and “makeup” instead of training hard and making something of yourself. Keep making up of yourself, though. I’m sure you’ll look back at your activities and realize it was time well spent.

This is part of the answer. The other part is that the lack of subcutaneous fat greatly accentuates every wrinkle on your face. When I was in my early 30s and weighed 103 pounds (optimal racing weight), I looked my age from the neck down and looked about 50 in the face. When I was 50 and weighed 116, I still looked 50 in the face. Fat people look older than their age, and so do really skinny people, whether they are runners or not.
I'm a facialist. Basically, if you want to stay looking young longer, you need three things; ONE be born with high cheekbones, a small, upturned nose and naturally full lips. These prevent sagging in the face and you can't replicate by enhancement. TWO use sun protection every single time you go outdoors, and keep reapplying it. THREE have great dental health and strong teeth, because if you don't your face will cave in.
Shalane and Deena don't look bad, but they do show signs of premature ageing. Do they wear sunglasses? That would have helped a lot as they have a lot of wrinkles around the eye area. Both have long noses which have drooped somewhat, and thin lips and there is overall a shortening of the face over time which has also led to wrinkles. I would hazard a reasonably certain guess that both have suffered from loss of volume in their teeth. Diet and lack of skincare regime would also have some effect but the main thing is bone structure, strong teeth and sun protection.
Its certainly possible to be an endurance runner and look young. Paula Radcliffe still looks young compared to Deena and Shalane, and so does Kara.
Lack of bodyfat and sun. Also, I've noticed that many elite women have noticeable receded hairlines (Shalane's a great example) which also may be a byproduct of low bodyfat.
This woman started on a meat-only diet twenty years ago to treat her Lyme disease. She has two kids and does no special exercise at age 48:

The receding hairline of many runners could be due to traction alopecia as well; years of wearing very tight/high ponytails will cause breakage and damage at the roots. It's a good idea to wear a looser ponytail, bun, braid etc. I'm sure you see the same thing in gymnasts, artistic swimmers, dancers, etc.
A huge lack of subcutaneous fat. Obviously they are burning fat all the time so their faces don't have the "soft" look if they had a healthy level of fat.
Shalane doesn't even look old for her age. She's 37. Have you seen people at 37, they look like Shalane (normal)
Probably you think this because Americans just aren't used to seeing someone who is an adult, but not overweight. Adults who are not overweight, grew up before the obesity epidemic. So now anyone who is an adult and not overweight, to Americans, looks "old". Because people who are skinny and adults are like 60 or 70 now in America. There are no skinny 35-40-year-olds. In America, people that age have big round faces
This probably isn't just an America thing, I'm sorry for making it all about America. There's fat people in Canada too (a lot). There's probably fat people in Europe (I don't know, I have never been there), and possibly in Asia and Mexico (I have not been there either).
But bottom line, Shalane looks normal, I like Shalane, and ya'll are butt-heads!
