Wasn't watching in a theater, but nearly turned off "Fargo". Most overrated movie of all time. Genuinely don't understand why it's so popular.
Overrated?
Nobody holds it up as the best movie of all time. Generally it is considered a good movie but not transcendent. They did many things well but some aspects are mediocre.
It tells the story of the female cop pretty well, we find her simultaneously strong and gritty but also somewhat vulnerable and sympathetic. However, the criminals' characters are somewhat half baked. They also do a decent job of using the setting as an additional character: the exaggerated accent and horrific weather both add to the story and are a good metaphor for the rest of the story.
It is mostly "so popular" because of the over the top death scene, which was somewhat novel at the time, less so now.
Anyway, you "nearly" turned it off, so you ended up finishing it, so you most not have disliked it that much!
