Different people are motivated by different things. I'm a scientist so I like my job and I like spending time at it, but it's also very flexible. I'm happiest when my life is a little bit difficult (just a little bit). A side product of my job is making money for people, but my primary motivation is to make lives better.
My job is pretty flexible, but I do know people whose quality of life would go way down if they goofed off for a week at work. And most people are happiest when they're performing well at work and not too stressed out. No sense in trying to convince them that they shouldn't be happy with what makes them happy. Maybe they know something you don't :)
