I'd say this workout puts him right around 1:04. Definitely not 1:02 shape but getting there.
-
Wonder what all the Jim haters will say now that Jim easily ran under 1:04:00, especially late in a workout with little rest between reps.
Let’s hear it.... -
This is essentially 12 miles in 1 hour. Very little rest. Seems to have kept it controlled on the 5 milers. I wonder what the effort was on the miles. He obviously has a lot of foot speed still for being after a season of ultras. He basically ran his half marathon today. If he peaks right, with the competition and adrenaline at the race, I don’t see how he won’t break 1:04:00.
-
I'm sick of these strava workout reports. If I wanted to follow him on Strava, I would.
Look, is he actually racing a real race? Post the date. -
I have no horse in this race, but for a top tier US runner, this workout is not all that impressive.
Could I do it? No.
Could a host of elite guys do it? Sure. What’s so special about 12 miles at 5 min pace? -

This workout is a good bit faster than most of the workouts 1:01:48 half marathoner Noah Droddy does. -

And longer but who will have the faster PR come January?
Hint, It won't be an ultrarunner -
Not only is Jim Walmsley way more popular and polarizing than Noah Droddy, he is also way better. There’s no way Noah beats Jim in a half marathon or anything longer.
-
Noah Droddy would crap down his legs halfway through the second 5 mile from the last Dominos pizza he ate.

Houston half marathon (no idea when that is, but you can look it up the same as I could)
Impressive workout.
And to the person who asked what the haters will say when he does go sub 1:04? They'll just find something else like they do for Rupp:
"Well, he finished in X place, so who really cares?"
"No competition"
"But he still DNFd at Western States in 2017 and UTMB in 2018"
"Yeah, but (insert some dumb phrase here)" -
What altitude was this workout?

Ladies and gentlemen I think we are witnessing the next American sub-60 half marathoner. I mean, look at Jim’s history and trajectory. Sometimes it takes a little obscurity to do something amazing. Nothing about his PR’s say he couldn’t improve to break one hour.
Ryan Hall didn’t always follow the rules and he broke 60 and holds the American record. There is no one out there that can compete with it except Jim in my opinion. He has the tools, mindset, and training to do it. Jim’s the closest thing to Ryan Hall since Ryan Hall.
I’m not saying he breaks it in Houston, I’m saying more like 1:02:02, but that’s his first one. I think he’ll get some publicity after this and break 60 on his third half marathon once he gets a coach and is able to focus on it.
As Americans we need to hope and pray Jim does this. We need a figure like Jim, who can transcend disciplines and gain the publicity and handle it like no one else. It’s evident that all these other 2:12 marathoners couldn’t handle the pressure because he don’t improve once breaking into the scene. Jim can handle that. -
Hey, Jim fanboy posting under all those different names -- stop it!
"Mindset"... Give me a [email protected] break..... -
Hey Mizuno Fanboy go ride a F%#^ing wave.
-
Was this workout done in Flag? Again, no clue why these boards are so negative all the damn time. It would be fun to see Walmsley hit the OTQ & then line up in Atlanta. Our sport needs more story lines.
-
And what exactly would the story line be?
What American distance running needs to sell is results, not stories. Another 2:12??? Meh! -
The storyline would be that all the track and road pretty boys are too weak and need their clothe diapers changed after a “slow” ultra runner does in 1 month what these road babies work their whole lives for.
