I'm building my base for a Spring marathon. Will improvement in base development be better with one or the other schedule? I'll be adding longer runs and more mileage once I have many weeks comfortably at about 50 miles per week.

Agreed. 7 in the morning daily and 10 in the evening 5x/week
The difference is 1 mile.
I've read many studies regarding the benefits of daily running. Something like 8x4 + 6x3 would probably be better.
10 mi X 5 days for marathon training.
More sustained running. And some rest.
For mile training, 7 mi X 7 days would be better.
