Too rich for my blood. I hope Tom is getting a cut.
How much of a cut is Tom getting?
I've considered buying the DVDs off his website as a way to say thank you for all he's contributed to these boards. But I'm never going to set aside time at home to watch a DVD.
If I can stream it on my phone when I'm traveling, that's something I'd do.
I'm in the red over $1,200, and I keep about $31 of the $32 price after fees. So after roughly 40 sales I break even - Tom gets no cut until I break even. After that point, Tom gets the percentage he agreed to in the first email I sent him. I misunderstood the demand for these videos, so the time that I've put into this project and Tom's time won't be realized for a couple of years, is my best guess.
Backstory: Tom was speaking in Colorado at the state clinic on Fri/Sat and was already in the area - I reached out to him to ask if he'd want to stay a day longer. He has these presentations - presentations he didn't have to do unique preparation for and was able to power through a long day on Sunday. He gave up that day and getting home a day earlier to do this project.
To watch: You download the Gumroad app and you watch the videos on your phone (or tablet or computer), just like a YouTube video. Each talk has a separate audio file that you can listen to, which obviously uses less of your data plan than playing the video.
No doubt these videos can be pirated and shared on a network with other people that pirate and share things. That's the least of my worries for clinic videos like this.
