Katelyn Tuohy says 2020 Olympic trials is a major focus for her. She says she wants to race 1500 but given her stride and talent she is better suited for 5000m. What do you think she could run. Assuming no burn out, where do you see her progress going. Could she possibly go to Tokyo?

15:0x in a fast race in 2020, but won’t make the team.

Wonder who will land her college if she doesn’t go pro. Would like to see her go someplace off the beaten path. Not another Stanford bust!
Maybe Providence! -

I agree with this. MAYBE high 14:50s but not fast enough for team. It’s a pretty solid event right now. Top 5 would be incredible. -

The Hounddog has been saying for sometime she will be pointing to the OT. I’m confident she will make the team and be in finals in Tokyo. You naysayers forget she is now running with no competition.
-
Will she even make the finals at the US Champs?
-
Zero chance to make the team/finals.
2024, yes. 2020, get real. -
I think she will. IMO the 5k isnt so deep that she has no chance. Will be fun to see how she does with competition.
-
She can definitely make the trials. Her 5000m time is close to the qualifier and she has faster XC times than other runners who have run qualifying track times. Something like that will be her first time having proper competition though so it’ll be interesting to see how she handles it. I think she will do well. Not sure if she would make the team or not

It’s deep enough that she has very little chance. -

Do you know anything about the trials?! You don’t get a look in unless you run sub 15:40. Are you saying she ran 15:40 on a XC course?
Yes she can probably run sub 15:40 on the TRACK and make the trials, but please give other 5k runners in the country respect. -
Yeah right. wrote:

Well considering she ran 1537 indoors last January, maybe ought to give katelyn a little more respect (and do your research).
That being said, it is way too far out from the trials to be "focusing" on that, much less predicting how she will do. She clearly has the talent to make the finals, but it all depends on who shows up and how they develop. In December of 2014, how many people would have predicted that Shelby houlihan (with a 5k PR of 1611) would have made the Olympic team (much less the Olympic final) in 2016. -
If she can win foot locker BOYS then I say she has a 5% chance to make the team lol
-
Indeed a 15:37 indoors as a soph. With even modest progression for someone at that age (say 10-12 sec a year), that would put her at 15:15 to 15:20. That's good enough to go to the Trials and good enough to make the final. Whether it happens or not, well that's why they race.
Going sub 15 or under 15:10 and making the top 6, that's more of a long shot. But that's why they race. -
Hasn't she been checking out Iona? Very close to home that's for sure.

This. Tuohy ran 15:37 in January SOLO (won by over 2 minutes), and as evidenced by her cross season, especially prior to her injury, she is continuing to improve. Assuming she stays healthy, I don't think 15:0x for Katelyn nearly 2 years from now is that much of a stretch, but any number of other hurdles could come up by then as well. We'll just have to wait and see, and in the meantime enjoy witnessing the performances of one of the greatest high school athletes in US history. -

That is total bullish*t. Do you even run? She ran her butt off and worked hard the entire race. The only thing missing is if she had to kick. You saying she'll be running the trials is a given and anyone with any sense already knew that---another stealth gloat? How ridiculous. No competition? She won by 16 or 17 seconds, give it a rest. You must have no life, that I'm sure of.
I don’t have a clue what you’re so upset about. This is unhinged stuff.
Especially because it’s unquestionably true that you run slower solo than you do when you have competition or pacemakers. Has nothing to do with whether she “ran her butt off” (as if anyone but KT knows how hard she was really working). Seriously do YOU even run? -

You sound unhinged. I comprehended every point the poster made. What's your issue? Do YOU even run? -
Is that what her private coach thinks is best?
