Anyone see the 400m prelims? I just looked at results and got excited when I saw Digby didn't advance, but it says that he advances because of a ref call? What happened?

That call was complete shenanigans; watched the race and he got tripped up right before the 200 mark. As much as that sucks, it sucks even more to give the dude a free pass. Plenty of people get DQ'd for crap like this, along with false starts and stepping on the line. Seems like a bit of favoritism if you ask me...
Patel wins the 3k tomorrow.
you heard it here first.

In reality though, I just watched the 400m. prelim He runs into the other guy and gets into the finals?? Complete sham.
Just rewatched the video of the race. He 100% ran into the guy/misjudged how much space he had inside that guy. And even crazier that the Buffalo state guy he ran into was DQ'd (though it doesn't really matter as he wouldn't have qualified for the final anyway).

My son, Greg, won the 3k.
This comment aged poorly.

Outdoor time!!!
Do you guys remember seeing that one annoying kid pushing everyone around? He should have been DQ'd
I heard Darin Lau has outdoor eligibility....
If we're talking about terrible calls, how about our buddy from Carleton getting away with a straight up shove of Aidan Ryan. If they're not gonna throw up the yellow on that, I'm not sure what exactly they're paying these twelve flag-guys for. Carleton guy got frustrated, stepped into lane 2, shoved him outward, and then surged to the front. If you can do that we might as well start talking about pad level out here.

yeah, this guy. really annoying to watch.
Even the officials don't take it seriously. They let everything go just to add some excitement.
The replay of the 3k is worth a watch.
On the backstretch during the first lap, it looks like McAneny throws a few elbows as Mueller tries to pass. Then, after the second turn, Mueller throws a big arm back to try and hit him.
On the backstretch right at the 2:30 mark into the race, McAneny passes on the inside and causes more jostling.
At 3:26 McAneny is trying to crash in on Mueller, cutting him off on the turn. In response, Mueller throws a big elbow.
Same thing as above happens at 3:43.
At 4:35, McAneny is holding the outside of lane 1 to prevent people from passing easily. Ryan from Williams comes up on his shoulder which causes McAneny to throw an arm out and stumble a little. Ryan throws his hands up, but the stumbling from Ryan and McAneny causes Mueller, right behind, to lose his balance. The only way for Mueller to stay up and not cause a huge pile up is to push Ryan.
I thought the problems came more from McAneny. Mueller pushing Ryan seemed like the only way he could stay up- it was unintentional. I think what happened is Mueller and McAneny were going at each other from the start. McAneny caused some pushing on the first lap, and then at the end Mueller clearly tries to hit him- this, to me, seemed like something he should have been DQ'd for. He actively took a swing at someone else in the race. The push later on looked accidental.
Throughout the race, most problems arose when Mueller and McAneny were pushing each other. I don't know who was right- McAneny had the outside for the most part so didn't need to cause the physicality, but Mueller shouldn't have responded in the way he did.
In conclusion, both Mueller and McAneny should have been DQ'd.
This is why you should be allowed to drop the gloves during a race, similar to fighting in a hockey game. If McAneny wants to play a little rough, Mueller should be allowed to k.o. his smug face.
I know the WIAC would be all in on this rule change, they have plenty of enforcers. Did you see what Lax brought in the 200m? He looked like the mountain from GOT.
Agreed. Liberals have ruined this sport. We should be allowed to have full contact and exchange blows, and men should never be allowed in women's races.
Seems like you're from Williams, so let's break this down.
Starting is starting, it's always gonna be a bit physical. No problems here.
The 2:30 pass on the inside was indeed a dumb move, but not grounds for disqualification.
At 3:26 Mueller clips McKenna's heels and stumbles a bit, making it look like McAneny is brushing him. Mueller did not "throw an elbow" and at this point there is still not active conflict between anyone, although Mueller clearly wants to lead the race. This would have otherwise been a clean pass.
3:43 is Mueller trying to do the dumb pass McAneny attempted at 2:30, but there's no room. Still no grounds for any athletes to be disqualified, just somewhat physical racing.
4:35 is the interesting one. The pace was picking up at this point, but a clear slowdown occurs as you can see the back of the back clench in towards the front. Mueller trips on either Morgan or Garcia pulling up on him, and stumbles forward. He then pushes Ryan, making room for him to pass and take the lead as he had been trying to do for the last 600m. I don't know if him pushing Ryan is necessary for balance, but it certainly makes for convenient space for him to pass (and subsequently . If the officials decided to DQ him for this move, I imagine it would be pretty easy for his coach to protest and overturn such a call, as there was a lot of movement in the pack at that point.
At the end of the day, no one stepped out of bounds, no one fell, and Morgan was still winning that race. I'm not seeing McAneny "playing a little rough". Perhaps just the lack of experience in big races resulting in moves that could have been a bit more clean? Additionally, I don't see a clear vendetta of Mueller against anyone in that race in particular, although the shove against Ryan was a bit much.
It happens around 5:40. It's kind of hard to see from the angle but you can hear the crowd react to it.
