Two questions come to mind: what's your investment in this and, if you're not planning to do anything about it, what's your goal here? If you're genuinely only interested about the privacy question the answer is yes--this is a clear FERPA violation. Even if the student or parents granted permission (a long-shot) it's still a violation speaking publicly like that. If you're a parent, pull the coach aside and remind him that this is inappropriate. If you're a student-athlete, find a responsible adult and ask them to do it. No need to go running to coach's AD to complain. But have someone talk to him about it to remind him he shouldn't be doing this. If you think it's a habit then sure, complain to the AD about unprofessional conduct. But if you have nothing invested it's not your fight, let it go.
