Recently in Eugene, before the Street Mile the night before the Pre, I asked Gerry Lindgren if he really repeated "bad berries, bad berries, ... like thousands of times on a 20 mile run Parker decribes in "Once a Runner"! (knowing that Parker mixed fact and faction in the Book). Sure enough, Gerries's Coach, who he highly esteemed, did get them to repeat that during long runs...also they would repeat "bad news, bad news, bad news! The question Gerry did not clearly answer was...why did they do that? I tried it on a couple 8 milers this week and found a rhythm during the repetition in my mind that I found kine of humours. Why did Gerry Lindgren's Coach have them repeat this?
