pewow - Nice effort and congrats on the 16:29. This should get you going.

Ha, yeah vicodin would be a bit over the top for JB and I probably should being more clear about that being when in acute pain. What I was trying to get at is to take analgesics rather than NSAID's.
Nice 1 Pewow .. way to bring it!
I couldn’t find that sub 5:20 speed you had.. until the kick.
Felt like I coulda held it for longer .. the pace ..but not gone much if any faster. Another good mileage week for me. Was catching up to third but ran out of road and he got me a couple seconds.
What’s next? Have a 5k I might do on the 10th..possibly. But def the turkey trot which is 9 days out from Orlando Dec 1. Should be able to bring that 16:29 at the trot. Maybe I shoulda worn the vaporfly’s?!
RRR and pewow: Fantastic racing, and great results! Congratulations!

RRR - you have rebuilt yourself. It all starts with you, my friend. Congrats on a well-deserved run. I knew you had it in you.
+1
100%
JB, RICE is somewhat out dated but I'd be tempted to ice for the initial pain/swelling. After 24 hours I'd carefully apply heat. I'd only continue heat if the heat isn't causing more pain.
Applying heat right away is very risky. The worst pain in my life came after applying heat to early to an ankle sprain. I've had multiple fractures at once that hurt less.
Couldn't agree more with OR here.
That isn't meant tondiscount Pappy's importance at all. Pappy is like the great Cabernet that brings a fine meal together, but you are the steak in that meal, and the steak is the centerpiece of the meal. Well, not for AJ come January, but you get the idea.
Great race pewow. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be next to you with 100m to go, that's is for sure.
Pewow. Great job!
Hey all...just saw that it was asked what my background was in running. Sorry for the delay. This thread is much more popular now than it was when I used to post. Glad to see it that way. Anyways, I’m from Florida but currently live in Michigan now. I went to a small NAIA school for college and had mediocre times. Injuries really set me back. After graduation in 2011 I decided I wanted to be a marathoner. I really upped my mileage. It was risky. But it eventually worked out. During that time I was able to squeeze out a 1:05 half marathon and 2:18 marathon and qualified for the LA trials. All while coaching myself. It continued this way until the end of last year after winning the Detroit marathon. I went for it all in training and was severely over trained after the cycle. That’s what 150 mile weeks will do to a runner. It really had me thinking what I was doing in this sport since I couldn’t touch the paces I used to run with ease. That was until I got in contact with Smoove. This guy really helped me with training and my confidence. Because of him I was able to get my second trials qualifier in Ottawa this year. If you need a coach and he’s willing to help out I highly recommend him. Plus he’s an amazing runner himself. After Ottawa I was able to land a spot with a pro group with my gf Sydney. She’s a successful runner herself. 2:32 marathoner and trying to go sub 2:30 at NYC next weekend. I’m currently training for CIM in 5 weeks with hopes to run a big PR. Not to get my hopes up though. Anyways, I won’t keep going on but hope that helps everyone understand my running. I’m really liking the communication in this thread. It’s really helpful for all runners. Keep it going.
RRR and pewow - Love to see both of you doing well. Two guys on the the thread always doing what they can to get better. You both really deserve it.
RunnersFix - I clearly remember when you showed up on the thread for the very first time and posted a week before the Philly Half (2013?) and you posted your training so nonchalantly, just as you are now. Always so humble about your talent and hard work. I am glad you are giving Smoove a shout-out, he’s deserving of the accolades, too. Really happy to see where you are at, as a runner and now as an aspiring coach yourself. Best of luck to Sydney next weekend. You won’t need it at CIM. Really hope you keep posting...
A hilly 16.14 at 6:31 overall today in a cold, drenching rain, finishing 6:13, 6:16, 6:08, 5:47. Let the taper begin...
Allen - Going to an orchestral performance tonight, Rossini and Tchaikovsky, and so I will have to check in with you later tonight. Have a great evening!

Enjoy! Just poured a glass of wine whilst dear wife is prepping a salmon and swordfish dinner. Neither locally grown, I'm afraid. :)

How many marathons have you run? What’s your PR?
Thanks in advance.
Have you even run one marathon?
