It may not be the optimal conservative strategy to go out that hard but I like the fact that he is going for it. His underdistance times of 13:31/27:54 are fast enough to potentially go sub 2:10 some day, like Yuki Kawauchi who has not run those times at 5/10 but has run 2:08. Why not race like it until you actually have the training and toughness to do it? That's what Kenyan runners do, though they have a long period in which they are doing that against better training partners in big groups, slowly moving up in the group until they can get noticed and travel overseas for big races.

Parker Stinson has always been damn good at getting way more coverage on letsrun than his performances seem to merit. I personally love him just for managing to piss off both the 70s/80s wannabe tough guy road racing crowd and the perma-angry C-level college runner crowd. Whatever he chooses to do next, he will have my full attention.
I get this, since it's protocol for a lot of people any more to simply support things which upset others. Strange, that, but whatever - voting against self preservation has always been a thing.
The best thing Parker could go is go radio silent, simply train and get tougher and smarter, and go for it frequently. Ignore the static and improve. That can't fly in this world of social media, however, so he's got a tough mountain to climb. There's always the myth of the unknown out there, training like mad, who's about to shock the world, right?

You obviously have no grasp of what he did and his true capabilities.
I don't think he's pissing anyone off, but maybe you. Clearly you don't understand pacing and running within yourself. I'm 27 and I think what happened is pretty simple, as many have alluded to in their posts. People are commenting on why, it's a forum. You're obviously super triggered and upset to even post on this thread.
I know Parker reads these boards and has surely read this thread. I'd guess that he'd call you a little short in the brains department. Parker ran the first miles of the marathon too fast and out of his ability. He never recovered from that and was struggling, hence Aaron catching him after being about 1 minute behind at 1/2 way. He can claim he felt great at 16 and whatever, but his race was over and he was starting to falter...>>>>due to the way too fast early miles.
Social Media has nothing to do with it. He's making a choice to be on it, no one is forcing him. It's called free will.
Parker can ignore it and just train.
Did you ever see Bill Rodgers running that reckless the first 3 miles? He didn't even do that in Montreal when his foot was injured and he wanted an honest race so Viren wouldn't get a free ride after the 5 & 10 double victories. Look at what they ran back then and compare their opening splits to their finish time. Parker Stinson should have backed off but didn't. I too know that he reads these boards, but he also knows it's the truth. Does anyone on here actually run? This is not rocket science, hardly.
Saucony would not appreciate his deletion of Instagram. Never piss off the guy writing your paycheck.
