Can get easily what exactly?
Sage is not exactly great when it comes to 100 milers.
That’s because the real racing doesn’t start ‘til mile 150, baby.

That's true but that is even further away from Sage's comfort zone which is around 50 miles.
Sage beated Anton Krupicka at Speedgoat 50k.
Sage, is this gonna happen this year? Should Gerda Steyn be invited for a rematch? All I’ve been hearing is Sage’s focus on trying to beat the top meat-eating women in ultrarunning now. If Sage was running Western States this year, would he be able to beat Courtney Dauwalter? They have similar WS PR’s .... (Although Courtney’s is more impressive given it was done in hotter temps)

Beated?
What does that even mean?

Walmsley is a 1:04 guy. Who knows if he has the ability to run a fast marathon. I doubt it. The competition will crush him before mile 20.
It's all mental baby, and Jim doesn't have what it takes.

You haven't seen the videos of him sobbing in the Western States trails when he blew up, I gather.
Jim Walmsley - elite level talent and fitness in the trail world, mediocre at best when it comes to mental toughness.
It's easy to look tough when you outclass your rivals and everything goes your way. The trials will be a different story, and he knows it. That's why he's going to half-ass his marathon training, to have a way out and save face.
If he could cut it in the marathon, he would. Simple as that. Elite on the trails, sub-elite on the roads in any meaningful distance. Easy choice.
I really miss the OP. Sand Dunes was my favorite poster here. He disappeared last Christmas though. If you are reading this, please come back Sand Dunes. Letsrun misses you deerly. I will do anything anyone here wants me to do if I could see him back posting again.
