bye Tim
bye Tim
I thought he tied it at 9.78?
it has been corrected to 9.77
Awesome. Now if Gatlin can just put his season together and give Powell a run for his money in Helsinki.
I wish Maurice still had the record, but good to see Montgomery off the books. It was only a matter of time - I think the 100m WR is going to come down significantly within the next couple of years with Asafa Powell, Gatlin, and Crawford. We'll see how far down they can get it.
Funny how Americans (myself included) with decent knowledge of the sport are probably relieved to have Timmy's record gone even if it's by a Jamacan. Congrats to Powell.
Asafa Powell breaks men's 100 metre world record
Tue 14 Jun, 6:50 PM
ATHENS (Reuters) - Jamaica's Asafa Powell set a 100 metres world record after clocking a time of 9.77 seconds on Tuesday. The 22-year-old broke Tim Mongomery's previous record of 9.78 set in Paris in September 2002 to become the fastest man ever over the distance.
So do we see 9.76 in Asafa's next race?
I think Justin will be there when it counts.
Are we assuming Timmy's record is tainted yet Powell's isn't? I remain suspect of ANY sprint record. It's just the nature of the beast until the testers get the financial support to stop the athletes. Testers will always be behind the athletes until so.
The IAAF site doesn't show 9.77

yes, those are just qualifying times.
Men's 100m 19:46 IT'S BEEN ROUNDED DOWN!! IT'S A NEW WORLD RECORD FOR ASAFA POWELL ALL ON HIS OWN! THAT'S HISTORY!!
Those are the prelims. He ran the final in 9.78, which was officially adjusted to 9.77.
Guilty until proven innocent? The guy's been running 9.8X's like every other day it seems, thus many drug tests in top-tier meets. If this was in Jamaica, or if it was Nesterenko emerging out of nowhere, you might have a point. But Asafa's 9.77 didn't exactly come out of nowhere.
Glad to see Tim's "record" relegated to the trash heap.
is he on something as well all the other record holders was
Chew on this...if every record breaking performance will be automatically viewed with skepticism, is there even a point in paying attention to elite t&f anymore? We should give these athletes our support, instead of hate.
Asafa's clean and there hasn't been any evidence to the contrary, so be happy for him.
well you must be jamaican he is not clean

Well the difference everyone KNOWS Timmy is dirty, everyone else is suspect. Suspect to me is better then a KNOWN druggy.
When was the last time 100 WR record was held by a Non American?
because... according to some people we have all ready reached the limits of physical human performance.
At what point are you considered clean.
Lets say hypothetically, someone took drugs from the age of 12-21, but quits at the age of 22.
Then the person starts running professionally at the age of 23 and starts to win races.
Is this person clean?
