This isn't about trash talk, though. She simply stated her goals and people find them very unlikely due to her newness in the sport and past performances. If [insert new male runner to the sport] said they wanted to go out and run a 2:04 for their first marathon, they would similarly get crucified.

You are a piece of crap.

I think she'll run between 2:24-2:29, depending how the day goes. This is practice and the time and place ultimately don't matter much.
Practice? Talkin' 'bout practice? If she runs between 2:24-2:29 and it is practice- just give her the 2020 gold now. No way she runs 2:24-2:29 in her first "real"(as she puts it) marathon as practice. Just not happened- BUT if the impossible happens then she is the greatest female endurance the US has EVER seen. Oly gold in the tri to 2:24-2:29 in practice for her first "real" marathon in a 2-ish year span- unbelievable [in every sense of the word] .
i have no idea what it will be but i can say i am rooting for both success and failure.
Its great to see bragging backed up, but its also great to see braggers fall on their face.
so its win win for my viewing!! just hope she doesn't do just good.
I'm surprised you have the time to b i itch about inspiring people that are faster than you given all the time you spend returning shoes to your local running store.
Big Props!
Successful run will be sub 2:28
More likely she'll run 2:30:30ish

Yes - we need to set easy goals for ourselves!
A good run and success for her would have to involve getting some type of significant media attention, to further her brand.
This may or may not be based on her finishing time or place.
Up close and personal about her as a mother, with her kid, husband who seems to work for her, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is going to be an all-out effort -- she's not going to jog 2:29 as a workout! But I think the main point is to gain experience, how she does in this race is secondary to her primary goal.
She has a huge aerobic engine, her 5k and half marathon times have indicated sub-2:30 ability, and now she's finally getting after it in her primary event. I think there's a reasonable chance she'll be well under 2:30.

Hey scorpion runner, please don't use this thread as your therapy session. Thanks.
Looks to be relatively warm this weekend, she’ll slog through sub-par conditions better than others in spite of her larger frame compared to the other women. Sub 2:27-2:28.
Gwen ran a 70:58 half on a very hilly course in Pittsburgh
That converts to a 2:28 marathon.. Chicago is much flatter and temperature should be much more favorable. I predict a 2:26 debut for her
I'd ay 2:25 would be good for her, but most likely she'll be 2:28-ish.
You guys should really just ignore Scorpion Runner, not sense arguing with him.

My point is that her past performances and background DO indicate that her goals are reasonable. And no male runner would get crucified for announcing an ambitious marathon goal if he had the times at shorter distances to back it up, as Gwen does.
I swear, every time this stuff comes up it's like all the Gwen haters think that people are assuming she'll be in the mix at the marathon just because of her triathlon background. No, it's her RUNNING background that shows she's the real deal. Maybe it's just that a lot of men don't really have a sense of what equivalent times are for women, but even so, it's not hard to just look at how she's placed in races against top notch competition.
2:24 for Jorgensen.
Let's keep in mind that Flanagan ran a 2:26:53 in NYC... if Gwen bests that in only her 2nd marathon, that would be VERY impressive.
For the hundredth time- you can’t compare NYC times and Chicago times! The course records are like 5 mins apart- NYC is way harder than Chicago. It’s like comparing an Xc 5k to a track 5k
