Disagree. There's no glory any more in finishing a marathon and knowing that you'll be definitely accepted into Boston. The old way was better. You ran the time, you were in. No questions. If there were spots available you could try running again to qualify.
The current system just fills the field with whomever they could get. Boston just wants their $6M guaranteed each year ($200 * 30,000 runners)
Could you imagine if the Olympic Trials just told people to run fast and they would later decide on the A and B standards, and let you know if you ran fast enough?
The glory or running Boston is gone
BAA person A: Oh, jeez. Where is everybody? Looks like we only have 1200 people in the field this year.
BAA person B: Actually it's 989...most of them men. But they all have felt "glory."
