Nobody wants to exclude smart foreign students from attending US colleges. Foreign athletes are typically much lower academically than the rest of the student body so these students are not enriching the student body.
What about the recruits for other sports? Some of them are given scholarships even though there is no intention of ever graduating. The basketball players are often drafted after only one year. A Kenyan athlete is more likely than the major sport athletes to enrich the student body, graduate and to be a positive addition to our work force.

Canada FTW!
Alabama offered Waleed Suliman a full ride plus $10,000 a year under the table, i think that's cheating
None of this would even matter if Americans weren’t so fucking bad at running. Don’t want better runners to beat you? Get good. Don’t try and legislate them out so you can get your fucking participation awards.
Hey, be nice guys.

Waleed Suliman is at Ole Miss, not Alabama. He's the nephew of Sudanese Olympian Mohamed Babiker Yagoub. The family has roots in Darfur.
Some of Alabama's distance runners are not direct imports from Kenya. In fact, their top distance runner, Gilbert Kigen, is actually a transfer from Central Arizona Community College. He was a highly decorated NJCAA runner who was called up by Alabama due to his athletic success on American soil.

Pretty cheap considering the age cheating which goes on in Kenya, and the whole thing is a just a major dick move by the Alabama coach.
Is that you Maury?
And Vincent Kiprop is a transfer from the NCAA Division II school Missouri Southern State University.
Dude, hand the crack pipe back to jo mamma. He doesn't even run at bama. He runs at ole miss.
You're missing the whole point though, so what if these Kenyans come in. Someone asked why americans don't do a gap 2 year then go to school it's because we can't afford to. The Kenyans can afford to. They wouldn't make much money at home in Kenya so they take time off, train, come to the US with a scholarship, run and then stay here and make more money.
They win all around. So what if the Americans get screwed. If you want it to change, what you really need to do is get the scholarship rules changed. Good luck with that.

i never said he went there idiot
Seriously what does alabama coach think hes doing. I should be able to watch a home grown boy win NCAA's in every single event no matter the time. I don't care if the fastest time in the country is only 13:40 for 5k!!! if white guys arent consistently winning cross country nats then something is clearly wrong with the system and therefore needs to be stripped back down to its core. Only allowing American, home grown, non age cheats, white males to compete! Unless its kerr/flanagan/ or any NAU guy in which i cant tell the difference so its ok! The ncaa really needs to look into these things. Jesus.
The funny thing about Alabama and UTEP and their droves of foreign runners is they only got one man and two women into nationals as individuals. How bad are these coaches that they can't even get mercenaries to perform well?
Can not blame Alabama or any college who recruits foreigners. U S athletes play too many games during the recruiting process. I heard of a recruit giving a verbal commitment, then went on an official visit to another program. Bottom line... foreigners are coming to your college or they are not. No games. Roll Tide!

Any scholarship that goes to a foreign athlete is one less that goes to an American. Don’t give me the crap about the coach wanting to recruit the best athlete. If everyone works off the same pie (USA only) then it is even.
Have you ever been on a campus of a large research university? Universities are about exchanging ideas. People from all over the world get together in a cooperative manner. University of Alabama is a large research university. Do you want University of Alabama to be open and available for international cooperation but you want the same university to exclude people of certain nations? Not a logical post. You make no sense.
...says the coach with five Kenyans on his team.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
