Everyone here is overreacting.
It doesn’t take a month to recover from a long hard run. Hell, he could have run an entire marathon and still be recovered in time.

"Everybody" isn't talking about recovery. Nobody missed you or your dipsh!tty quips, stop acting like some elder statesman because you were a big talking non-factor a decade or so ago.
^^^ I mean he's right tho. Overreactions and haters galore. Chicago is far enough out for him to recover and you need to do long runs like this to hit 2:10. How else do you get there? 7:00 pace for 35km?
I've done long runs that distance in the 6:20-35 range aiming for a 6:00-10 marathon (I know not the same). It's hard but not all out and you can recover just fine.

He will crash and burn. You don' want your best workouts before the race.
you want strong workouts with potential for improvement in the final month or so. This is coaching 101
What???? That's slower than his projected race pace! Are you guys all hobby joggers????
^THIS^ Wow, one poster out of every 15 gets it! You guys don't know anything about training and his effort will NOT hurt his Chicago Race in the least, but will only help him.

Don't be shocked, this is LETSRUN Baby!!!!!!!!, filled with 40 minute 10k runners who know everything!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed, it wasn't a 35k race effort. Parker will be fine, it's the arm chair quarterbacks that have issues.
Parker going sub 2:10 watch
And then he’ll claim on instagram that anyone that beats him is doping
His 63 half at Philly yesterday points to a 2:12 marathon, I think he would be happy with that.

I think he will only be happy with 2:10:xx or better - he's stated this multiple times. This will likely depend on weather - we'll find out in a few weeks...

He's going to run between 2:14-2:17
Workout hero
He won’t break 2:15. You guys don’t know how to judge talent.
You’re and idiot

Not to mention, it looked like he did the workout by himself. I don't think its even possible to destroy yourself in a non-race setting running alone unless you try something crazy you're not ready for... its not like he decided to run 20 miles As Hard as Possible when the farthest he's ever ran in his life is 10 miles... It's odd how the people of LetsRun basically compare elite runners to weekend warriors.
Plus, if you want to be great, and really make it to the next level, you have to do some stuff that seems a little crazy. People don't generally make the Olympics by 'textbook' training only. Most of you would probably be faster if you **occasionally** quit obsessing about the exact 'correct' intensity/pace of your workouts and just ran Hard ( HINT: Occasionally is the Keyword). In my opinion, it totally sucks the fun out of running as well if you have to stick to regimented paces 100% of the time. Remember there's a mental/emotion aspect to sports as well. Elite athletes aren't robots that only respond to physiological training. Hammering a long run can provide a ton a confidence, and maybe.. just maybe.. the athlete loves this type of workout. And workouts like these where he's let off the leash is what keeps the monotony of training enjoyable.

Irony is beautiful.
Not sure if the vid has been posted but here it is
So much attention given to a workout for a guy who hasn't won anything much in almost 10 years, no USATF titles, no NCAA titles, no PAC 12 titles. He's just fine at pacing, which netted the US Jr & PanAm wins way back when. You never know maybe all this hype will help, for sure his coach loves it.
Letsrun posters: "I hate how professional runners are so private about their training, don't interact with fans, and then just show up on race day"
Also Letsrun posters: "I can't believe this guy is sharing videos of his training. He hasn't even won an Olympic medal!"
Stinson blew up at his last marathon and still ran faster than anyone posting on this thread, apologies if anyone here did run 2:18 or whatever.
And everyone seems to forget how specialized training needs to be in this upper atmosphere. This isn't some guy trying to finish, or run 3 hours. He wants to run 2:10 or better, and he believes this is what he needs to do. I've got no issue with that. It's no worse than what I did when I was planning to run fast, though not that fast.
The only thing I see wrong with Parker is his form, or efficiencies - He might be able to go 26.2 running like that, but to ME he's way too 5K to be running so long. Look at Adola, then look at Parker. Smooth is fast.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
