2015 100k world champs- choked
2016 Western States- choked at 93 miles, sits down and sulks after a wrong turn, takes 4 hours to go 7 miles
2017 Western States- choked, DNF
2017 UTMB- choked at 100k, the one and only time he kinda rallied for 5th
2017 Grand Raid Reunion- choked, DNF
2018 Western States- his 1 major win out of 7, not as competitive as people think
2018 UTMB- choked, DNF
You seeing a trend? He wins small American races but chokes at international competition. He's a choker.

Nice list of Jim Walmsley's successes. Wasn't he the guy to bring speed to ultramarathon running?
He is a joke that's for sure.
I think this is also where the lack of prize money tends to come into play in the ultra world. If you want to actually make decent money then you have to race a lot (or at least try to) in an effort to appease sponsors and possibly eek out some winnings. If Jim knows one thing it’s that the likelihood of a long career in ultrarunning is against the odds so he takes the path of “do lots often and make it happen or flame out fast”. (Don’t use Killian as a retort, he’s the only one to ever have so much success for so long). The competitiveness in ultra events would be much better if these guys and gals could afford to race just a couple 100s a year rather than trying to turn them around every couple of months with other, shorter (ultra distance) races as well.
I’m also not convinced that Jim is cut out for mountainous ultras with the way he’s built and how he runs. However, unlike probably many here, I’ve met the guy numerous times and he’s actually a really dang good guy. I can see how some of his interviews could paint a different picture but that’s not Jim. There’s zero arrogance about the guy. He just loves to run. I wish he’d slow it down a bit because I think his approach is wrong and he could really be one of the best, if not the best, by changing his mentality.

You're definitely proof of this.

If you don’t like the guy, why does it upset you so much when he loses? Shouldn’t you be happy he loses? Seems like you have a lot of unresolved emotions going on here.... stereotypically gay men are more emotional so it makes sense how seeing your crush lose upsets you. Maybe write him a poem, work your emotions out that way?

Has race locked up, but decides to drop his pacer and go it alone. How did that work out?
Why are we talking about jogging again?

Because watching a load of doped up no-names on a track is getting boring?

Because it´s much more interesting than seeing a bunch of anonymous Africans running laps around a track. They have to move DL to smaller stadiums so the lack of spectators won´t be as noticeable. Meanwhile in ultras:

You can get 100k spectators in Boston try again

That's not an ultra, that's a marathon, and probably the most popular mountain marathon in the world: Zegama. Hardly representative.
I like trail running, run mountain trails often, and find ultras interesting, but let's not kid ourselves about their popularity.
You don't think they dope in mountain ultra running? Did Western States 100 even bother testing this year?

Where's the friendly united community I've seen at races? These ultra threads turn into a bunch of bitter jerks just bashing people. Think before you post.
You're embarrassing our sport.

I strongly suspect it's just one bitter jerk. There can't be more than one guy so weirdly obsessed with telling us what a loser Walmsley is.

I wouldn't call Jim Walmsley a looser.
The problem is that Jim sets high expectations and then fails big because of a lack of proper preparation. I can not believe that he does not have a coach.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
