On September 16th, 2018 in Copenhagen, the greatest half marathon of all time might unfold.
The mission is very clear, to break to WR. Organisers spent a fortune to get the best elite field ever assambled to get it.
I will list the official field, with some names yet to be announced!
Eric Kiptanui - 58:42 in Berlin half this year after going out in 13:32. Ran alone for the last 11k. He said he wants to break the WR, even going under 58 mins if everything cooperates.
Abraham Cheroben - 58:40 PB, silver at the world half champs this year. Defending champion. He also said he is ready to attack the WR.
Jemal Yimer - 59:00 PB in 2018, 4th place at the world half champs. 26:56 - 10000m PB.

PACEMAKERS : Daniel Kipchumba 59:06 PB in 2018 and Josphat Boit 59:19 PB in 2018. Organisers are yet to reveal what the pace will be, rumours have they will go out at 57:59 pace if weather is ideal.
Note : Organisers said the full elite list might not yet be complete. So i wonder, who are they trying to get in this race? I have only one guy in my mind. GEOFFREY KAMWOROR. It would be the icing on the cake, i'm sure he will be a late addition. New York Marathon is in November, he skipped all the DL races..it's obvious to me. -
Holy F.
-
Damn that's like a who's who of dopers.
Hope Rupp gets the WR lolololol. -
I hope he gets it.
-
Crazy exciting!
Hope they add Kam for sure, and we see something incredible close to 58 minutes.
Anyone know what Kiptanui has been up to since his incredible run in Berlin? Was Cheroben fit in Valencia last year? Because iirc Kam trounced him by 20 or more seconds (all of that in the last 6k!!!), so considering Cheroben ran 58:40 in copenhagen Kam seems more than capable of a WR. -
Oh. My. Lord.

This is so exciting and gives me something to live for tbh wrote:

Cheroben was very fit in Valencia in March at the World Half Champs. The difference was 20 seconds indeed. Kam would be the outright favourite. If not, i have to go with Kiptanui.
He got injured in june, but fully recovered and trained really hard for some weeks. His talent is incredible too. -
Very exciting, I'm happy for them. Not too much longer before those guys work up to running a full marathon! It's a lot of work, but if I can do it, anyone can do it!
-
Must be a nice flat course. Geez Salazar does not mess around. Galen either gets the 1/2 AR or marathon AR. Or both! What the heck. No pressure. Sounds like his training is going well?
-
Rupp sub 59. You heard it here first.
-
If Kam shows, this field is really too good to be true. We'll have crazy winds or something like at the world half, don't get too excited. Hopefully, though, this sparks a trend of crazy good halfs. We could have a heck of a lot more great races this way.

The fairytale continues on the women's side. A WR attack will happen for them too. ( 64:51 )

Edith Chelimo - 65:52 PB
Ruth Chepngetich - 66:19 PB, 2nd Paris Marathon 2018
Ababel Yeshaneh - 66:22 PB in 2018
Mary Wacera - 66:29 PB
Meskerem Assefa - 67:42/2:21:45 PB's
Jordan Hasay - 67:55/2:20:57 PB's
Hiwot Gebrekidan - 68:00 PB
Zeineba Yimer - 68:08 PB
Desi Jisa - 68:10 PB

Googling the course now. :) I’m 1/2 danish so this is awesome!
-
This is very exciting. Imagine the possibilities if everyone committed to going all-out! However, as history has shown, most times when a field of this caliber gets together, it ends up being tactical. No one at this level wants to lose, so they end up keying off each other and the pacers and the clock go out the window. Hope I’m wrong. Go Galen!

What about Joshua Cheptegei? After his injury at the Commonwealth games i heard he would come back for some road races later in the season.
Would be so lovely to have him in Copenhagen for his half marathon debut. -
Is there a link to any Press Release, article, tweet?
-
Yep start number 12.
-
Will he have anything left for Chicago though? He’s also doing that 10 miler.
