The new Florida Stand Your Ground law requires that the state prove that the defendant is not entitled to assert Stand Your Ground, so the judge postponed the case until it is all set. In Florida, as a result, people can murder other people on the slightest pretext, or run them over, and almost always are exonerated, if they are white males. In Pinellas County recently, there was the guy who was initially not charged for killing someone who pushed him away from his wife. There are gun stores all over the place here and the Legislature is always trying to extend any NRA priorities. Republicans in Florida want this to be the Wild West.

One hundred-forty years ago, there were no pistols allowed in-town laws. I am not aware of laws as bad as Florida Stand Your Ground laws in old west.

He hasn't delayed his sentence. He hasn't even been tried at this point. The Florida SYG law as written is idiotic. The original premise for the statute was a good one.
