My Father.
John Mayeroff once ran a 48 second 440yard run on a dirt track, with a bum knee in spikes about 3 inches long, in 1954.
My mother and father are probably the #1 reason why I am a runner in the first place.
If you get to know my mom, you will see someone who could've been the Joan Benoit of the 1960's, but she had no opportunities to compete since there was really no athletics for girls/women in Nevada then. When she runs, her strides look exactly like Naoko Takahashi.

Steve Heidenreich ran for Indiana in the mid-1970s. I was in high school and just starting out running and used to study Runner's World every month (it was a f***ing great magazine back then) and for some reason he just became my favorite runner. Tough, gritty sort. He got down as far as 3:38/3:56 over in Europe.
