W&L has a studly returning group of now seniors and a great incoming freshman class. I predict a top two finish for the men.

Let’s talk about how impressive it was that CNU finished 3rd last year and 11th in 2016. Granted it’s no where close to where they will be this year, but wow. For all the haters on LetsRun who didn’t even think the S/SE should be invited to NCAA’s just a couple years ago, what are your thoughts now? The ME, C, and W have been responsible for the 31-32 positions each of the last 2 years. Definitely a positive trend going on right now for the Region. This year should be no different. A chance for at least the 3rd place S/SE teams to get to Nats and easily could have the 4th. Rhodes will lead the charge with a top 15 finish. 2-3 other teams including CNU can be top 20-25. Leaving the other 7 regions fighting for the caboose of D3.

Anyone know when Rhodes’ first serious race is
Louisville
Jeez guys c'mon Rhodes is not that good. They will probably make it to nationals and finish in the bottom 3. No depth and they will die in the cold. CNU is much better and will be top 10 at nationals.
I agree that Rhodes is overrated, just like their assistant coach Josh Clark was in college. Guy was only AA four times.
Bottom 3 at NCAA's? The S/SE had 3 teams in the top 25 last fall. Rhodes was 24th last year and only lost one senior in their top 5. They also picked up a mid-year transfer who went low 15's on the track this spring. Not to forget, Spencer Fields was 9th at NCAA's in the 10K. Holds PR's of 30:18 and 14:35. Fields and McKenzie of Berea are the Region's most complete runners. Rhodes will be top 20 on a bad day. Could finish top 10 on their best day. Look at CNU 2016 who was 11th. Tell me how Rhodes is any different than that team. I'll wait.
I have some doubts about fields’ ability to perform on the big day. Absolutely bombed his first NCAA XC, and couldn’t get the AA in the 10k either, though admittedly a much better performance. Something like that is in your blood
It seems like the S/SE is pretty clear cut as far as individuals. Are there any surprises besides, McKenzie, Fields, Gibson, Hiegel who could win the region? Top 10 thoughts are below.
1) McKenzie, Berea
2) Fields, Rhodes
3) Gibson, Mary Washington
4) Hiegel, Bridgewater
5) Lightbody, CNU
6) Patrick, WL
7) Torres, Emory
8) Freyhaldenhoven, Rhodes
9) Shaw, Emory
10) Hearn, Rhodes
Thoughts on the first weekend? I believe CNU is way better than Emory. Rhodes doing some work with their 1-3 guys at the Memphis Twilight.
I completely agree that CNU looks better than Emory. Is anyone actually convinced that Emory will be good this year? I feel like we just assume they will be every year because "its Emory." Let's talk honestly for a second. Emory is a trash team that fails to capitalize on the fact that they are a huge school with a national reputation. If they took advantage of their obvious advantages in recruiting then they would never lose to CNU, Rhodes, or any of the other schools in the South. C'mon Emory, I expect better from you.
Sincerely,
A Concerned DIII South/Southeast Region Fan
If Rhodes doesn’t tempo, Freyaldenhoven could be top 3.
Gimme a break. His first natties was as individual freshman and Region was on demanding North Va course one week prior. No bomb there...tired freshman. He led his team to the next two nats and those races were more suspect but the body of work was strong. Last year his team had a crazy slow start.... bet that won’t happen again. That said, Rhodes has 6 with 5k under 15:32, they are the class of the SE and will tempo at Region for better nats run.

Tell me again how going from 9th at region to 173rd at nationals isn’t bombing? Oh and the next year he went 7th at region and then 150th at natties. Ok last year he had a fat improvement to finish 80th. I don’t know how people can say this guy is gonna be all american this year. You may argue that the body of work is strong, but the mind is weak
I agree with you that Emory has been a consistent underachiever. The south region is only getting stronger, and to keep up they’re going to need to step up and start punching their weight. I think that the next few years are going to be very bright for the men’s team, as they just picked up a very talented coach. 13:59 Haverford alum who did some coaching at middlebury and semi-pro groups. Emory has the guys to get top 2 at region this year. Time will tell if this new coach can get the best out of them
Hiegel for Bridgewater College runs 24:39 8k in training flats in his first race this year..
Also heard Hiegel and his coach just decided to tempo this race. Probably in 23:30 shape right now. Could be a top 3 guy at Natties.
I heard Heigel was puking his guts up in his team camp before the race, got pushed down in the 1st mile, lost both of his shoes, took a pit stop in the portapotty at 4k, and proceeded to fall in the lake on his way to tempo-ing a 24:40.
Heard Rhodes did a workout morning of Louisville then decided to tempo the race
