Get onto a guy by the name of Sandy Cohen. He'll hook you up with a club and may even offer you a place, or pool house, to stay in if you ever need somewhere to sleep.
Unfortunatly there is only one and it is outside of OC. Team Run LA. Cal Coast might hook you up with shoes, and comp your membership fee, but it is pretty much just a casual road running club.
If you were a solid guy in college you might want to hook up with one of the clubs from northern California, but if you are just looking for a little fun and competition, then Cal Coast would be sufficient.
Team Runners High also has a couple of good guys, they are out of Long Beach, but as most clubs are, this one too is just a loose group of guys who train on their own. Old Man Pete has a family and shit, and the "getabooty's", I think train out in Riverside and N/E OC.
Anyways dude, good luck, here are some links for competitive norcal clubs.

if you want to get into touch with Nike TRLA, just post on this board, they all check it.

What about Snails Pace Racing team? They have some real quality people, don't you think?

No. Cal Coast usually does better, but I find very little loyalty between Cal Coast, Team Runner's High and A Snail's Pace (the runners will switch teams).
Within Orange County:
Calcoast
Snails Pace
Orange County TC
Southern California TC
Close to OC:
South Bay TC
Beach TC
About Team Run LA: This appears to be a club of just a few very good runners, and those few runners may beat the top few runners from Calcoast in middle distance/XC. But they have very few runners, so they go around berating all the other clubs like you see here. The fact is, though, in the USATF Southern California Championships last weekend, South Bay TC seriously kicked Team Run LA's butts in the final point standings.
But make no mistake--Calcoast is a huge club, and they are the dominant club in Orange County, just as the San Diego TC is the dominant club in San Diego. Calcoast has put one or two people into the Olympic Marathon Trials for the last several Olympics.
What do you mean by competitive and what distance?
Calcoast has a few guys who focus on the 1500 to marathon who aren't competitive at the national level but for local type peeps can run decent times. A couple guys ran 3:55 last weekend. A few guys reguarly show up for workouts who run mid 15 5Ks and 32 for 10Ks.

I am not from TRLA.
I am assuming this guy isn't looking to plod around with a bunch of leathery old farts who run 50 miles per week.

If this dude is not "competitive" then my post is null and void. So keep tootin' your own horn there cowboy, you are clearly proud that your team won the weakest road circuit in California.
I'm looking for a group that I can get together and do some mileage with from time to time while i try to get a few more years out of my legs. In college I focused on the 800 but look to be bumping up to the 1500/800 and get into some races up at stanford or mt. sac.. I was a 1:52 guy if that helps at all with what club would work best.thanks
email me if you have any specs on club memberships
Coach Sumner of Cal Coast has a lot of experience coaching 800/1500 meter runners. He coaches at Corona Del Mar High School and has a proven track record.
A few years back he coached Liz Morse to win the 800 at the state meet. A year or two later Josh Yelsey was 2nd in the 1600 at state to Ryan Hall. Last year he coached Anne St Geme and Hillary May to the state meet in the 1600. This year CdM's Sarah Cummings and Anne St Geme made it to the state meet and Anne St Geme placed first in the 1600 at state. Last time I looked the CdM girls were ranked 1st in the nation in the 4 x mile.
CalCoast costs $250 to join. I don't get it. Are there any groups of decent runners that get together for training in Orange County?

Good question Arnold. Are there running clubs in OC that are somewhere in between Olympic trial caliber and newbie jogging clubs? E.g. any recommendations for above average runners (say 17-18 minute 5Ks) looking to get in some tempo runs?
Female coach having affair with male runner. Should I report it?
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
If Daniel's and Pfitz are outdated..then where do I look for modern training plans?
