I know! Remember that time you picked me up, and how excited you got when you found out I had a P P down there! Oh yeah!
Way to start a LRC thread about getting trolled.
All that hops gives you man boobs
Maybe I had just had bad taste in beer when I was a drinker, but I always preferred the light beers to the full monte (or whatever). A lot smoother and more refreshing. Just good old Michelob Light, Bud Light, etc. more than did the trick for me
Light beers are for people who aren't drinking real beer. Take the training wheels off and drink something real!
I only drink Don Julio margaritas. Beer is nasty and makes me throw up on contact.

It is a matter of passion vs. snobbery.
You are comparing people who seem to know a great deal about beer (comparing hops, balance, maltiness, etc) and people who just want to bring them down.
People who are passionate about something can always be fun to interact with if you have even basic empathy.
People who like to bring others down for opposing tastes are rarely enjoyable to be around long term.
I think this is an accurate sentiment. My brother-in-law is an anti-beer snob. He makes it a point to criticize craft beers, thinks they are stupid or something, will not even try them. What makes him insufferable to be around is that anything new, unfamiliar, or with any hint of fanciness or detail, like your local microbrew or even Eggs Benedict, are met with the similar disdain. He's just not enjoyable to be around because he doesn't want things to change or be different, and doesn't want to try anything new, even when doing something novel like on vacation when you should be trying something new.

There seems to be an idea that blue collar people can't be snobs, which is nonsense. If you're going to stand here and tell me that your beer choice is superior to mine and that my beer preference is wrong/stupid, then YOU are the beer snob. This is true even if you're drinking Bud and I'm drinking a craft brew.
Well stated.
Some of the snobbiest people I've ever met take excessive pride in their blue collar-ness.
No one is as bad as latte sipping neckbeards who go on and on about different coffees.

Beer taste terrible no matter what form it takes. It's like arguing over which raw onion tastes worse. They all taste awful.
Aw c'mon folks, haven't ya heard? After the first few sips "beer" is mostly backwash anyway.
This is a good topic and I am one who needs help, simply because I am over 50.
Probably because I grew up drinking lighter beers, I am now settled on Pilsners which are generally ignored by a lot of craft brewers. I have difficulty in those bars with 20 craft beers, mostly IPAs and nothing else. However, I like beer culture and I am just trying to keep up and find some good ones in industry with low barriers to entry, too much product and a bias against large competent brewers that like to make money.
Most of these bars make it difficult: they don't have menus, or they have a snarky response when I ask "what kind of beers do you have?" Or, they are unknowledgeable to begin with. There is also a lot of mediocre beer out there and bars don't always cultivate the best when they insist on "all local." When you travel in Europe you find some nice beers you have never tried, often local, no attitude, more often a point of pride which makes you want to try them. I realize EUR vs US is another form of snobbery but I think it is just more mature beer market. I hope we get to a point where craft brew spots are a little more thoughtful. I think Napa Valley has really figured this out and most people in the industry there are really excited to help beginners and experts alike, as long as they spend money. And of course many of them are just drunks.
