Farm Team Focus???

what the hell. do you get some kind of rush out of being an ass to people who are obviously working their asses off to race on the farm team?? leave them alone! they're training hard to be their best. there's nothing wrong with htat.

you should find out some facts before you post. Dan spent some time with Gags at Stanford last year & was offered a spot with The Farm Team. He felt ZAPFitness was a better deal for him. He still feels that way.

Besides, Hansen hasn't done shit since "Mmmm Bop".

Brian Sell has been on 4 world teams

Richie Brinker has been on 2 world teams

Jeff Campbell has been on 6 world teams

Clint Verran has been on 3 world teams and has already qualified for the World Championships in the Marathon so 4 world teams.

None of these athletes finished top 20 in NCAA D1 cross. So the development of each has been phenomenal.

Most important fact that the Hansons pointed out to me on my visit was. 100% of their current athletes have run a pb in the last year. If you are not improving, they let you go. This includes 34 year old Carl Rundel who is still improving.

So...BOTH Farm Team AND Hanson's have created opportunities and great performances. Gee, that can only bode well for U.S. running.

Please remind me, why are we supposed to hate one or the other? It seems like a silly and trivial debate to me. But, then again, what do I know? I'm just a simple minded idiot who wants his COUNTRY to be represented well. I really don't care what club an athlete runs for or what shoes he wears.

Nice comeback! However, this is ridiculous, everyone should agree that both groups were formed to A. give post college types a place, group and coach to train with and B. improve American distance running.

I wouldn't believe that anyone from either group has any personal probelms with anyone from the other group. The people that come on here to start discussions hoping to throw mud need to spend more time running, working, reading books, watching tv or something else. Who cares what someone else's focus is. Let the running speak for itself.

Why all the raggin of Gags? if you want some kind of idea, check the anal of the sport (oops meant annals -sp?) track and field news. try to track down the penn relays issue back in 91 i think with holman and john "fish" trautman on the cover. gave a little idea about the training philosophy. i did sometime with the enclave and trust me, everything is strength. there was no emphasis on speed in training for the milers. that was what underdistance racing and relays are for as Gags put it. Gags said there was no secret to what we did, it was just to train hard. Holthaus ran 4:00 flat that indoor season and there werent any halves done in 2:00. usually the fastest we ran was at 3k pace. weather might have had something to do with it, but from my own experience Gags emphasizes strength not speed. who the hell cares if you can run 47 point in the quarter if you aint around to use it in the straight.

How did he progress that outdoor season? That is the test of real strength. How did he run for 3k indoors that season (since all of his training was at 3k pace)?

I thought it was going to be an article on Cross-Country so that you could make your point about strength. Instead it was an article on an early track meet (Penn) that you really shouldn't be ready for if you are planning on going to Europe. You certainly made a point, I'm just not sure it was the one you wanted to make.

There are 2 questions of you.

1. Did he run any 3k's during that indoor season with all of that strength training? (If yes how fast)

2. How did he progress during that outdoor season?

no he didnt. just because a 15 guy trains longer during indoor doesnt mean he has to run indoor. outdoors he ran 3:38. about a 3 second improvement.

We have been told to stay off this site but I am very defensive of our guys because I see how much they invest every day. I am sorry for anyone that I offended as I only meant to defend my teammates and myself. In signing off I will say that Cullum is on the World Cross Team so it was important to some of our guys. I was only speaking for myself and not the entire team when I said that track was my top priority. So you can all go f*** yourselves.
