She talks about wearing it in this video she released on her youtube channel.

There was one report Galen Rupp ran a custom 4% spike in January but we hadn't seen confirmation of that anywhere.
Thoughts on the 4% spike? Think more athletes will want to do this or are the supposed advantages of the shoe more suited or the roads?

A Nike Vaporfly 4% Spike Exists and Gwen Jorgensen Wore It at Nationals

She had a picture on her Instagram or whatever the day before the race that made it clear it was a 4% with some kind of added spike plate. There was a thread about it and other things at the time.
I think she's doing the right thing. Once I went off the track and started racing on roads I had a hard time going back to the track without aggravating my Achilles. Many road runners would rather wear something like the NB1400, Adidas Adios, or Brooks T7 for long distance track races if they'd just give us the spike grip in the forefoot. -

That is blatant cheating and Gwen should receive a one-year ban for that.

Gwen + Vapor fly spikes = a turtle who shoe dopes

We added a fewer close up images to the article.

Seems pretty clear that its just a 4% with a spike plate slapped on. Not all that exciting IMO.
I'd be more interested to see closeups and details of the spikes Lopez Lomong and Carrie Dimoff were wearing. -
Nike quality is unparalleled. I have Nike sneakers that are 10 years/old and look almost new. Nike high jump spikes are also preferred by most of the top jumpers in the world today.

All Nike Athletes get spikes put on their road flats for workouts when training on campus. They have been doing it for years. Not a big deal, she just chose to race in them.
Ask anyone in ODP or BTC to confirm. -
geez. look at how far back she throws her arms/shoulder in that photo. seems so incredibly inefficient

Frank Shorter won the 1972 Olympic Marathon in the same shoes he wore a few days prior in the 10,000 meter.
The shoes no longer had a spike plate. This isn't rocket science. It's just shoes. -

Of course it is not rocket science, moran.
It is however cool that she's sharing up close her new racing kicks. -

Whooooosshhhhh!!! -
Why would she need such a heavily-cushioned shoe for running on a track surface? Sometimes people race on tracks in flats if they have achilles problems, but I'm not aware of Jorgensen having that problem. She's larger/heavier than most women but most men are her size or larger and they don't wear hard road marathon shoes.

everything that isn't rocket science is just what it is. -
Gwen has a huge achilles problem. She mentions pretty much very time she's in front of a camera.

The carbon-fiber plate in the Vaporfly needs the cushioning to be effective.
seems like it would be too much bulky weight to wear on your feet on a padded track. -
Especially if you need quick turnover for a last lap kick.
-
She could get spikes with a custom built-up heel for that. I imagine it's just a comfort thing. She has done very little track racing.
