Yeah, well i just spent the last half hour or so listening to live Husker Du, so there.
Weren’t they a Minneapolis band? I have never listened to them, but did like their chapter in Our Band Could Be Your Life.

Best band of the '90s was The Verve. Far, far better than Nirvana.
TELL ME ALL YOUR THOUGHTS ON GOD CAUSE I'D REALLY LIKE TO MEET HER
Both were pretty terrible. So was Pearl Jam. Chris Cornell was the most talented of that era/genre.
how likely is it that anyone would ever pose the assertion: "Nirvana is a better band than Foo Fighters."
LOL. No one would bother. That tells you all you need to know. The answer is obvious, and the only person who would pose an opinion like the OP is one who wants to argue that his lesser known favorite band is better than a widely recognized band that he doesn't like as much.

Certainly more positive than Nirvana.
Go listen to Justin Beaver if you need saccharine teeny pop.

Man, speaking of the Pixies, i heard this live cover they do of the Jesus and Mary Chain song "Head On". It is just awesome. I wish i could hear more like that.
Have to totally disagree with you, though, on ripping off the Pixies. Curt once said he was influenced by them. But he said he was influenced by a lot of bands, and all anyone has to do is listen in the least little bit and they can hear they are totally different.
I saw the Pixies a couple of times right around the time Doolittle came out and Frank Black solo and with the Catholics maybe a half dozen times. So when they decided to reunite, I thought: Cool, I’ll go relive my youth. They definitely were not the same band in 2004, and hold the distinction of being the only band I’ve seen live play the same song twice. Granted, the first Head On was in the set and the second time they played it was as an encore. It was a young crowd that probably wasn’t alive when the Jesus and Mary Chain recorded the song, so nobody else seemed to notice.
Anyway, Pixies>>>Nirvana. Foo Fighters? Did they write the theme to Ed? But not the good theme to Ed. That was Clem Snide.
I don't mind the Foo Fighters, but talk about stretching it out. Fifty versions of Everlong, then dragging everyone in the audience on stage so the odd unicorn will provide a decent Instagram video. They're all but Big and Rich at this point. But really, a great cover band, and I can get into that.
Hey!
Wait!
I've got a new complaint.
The first Foo Fighters album is really good. Raw unpolished power rock w/ a brush of sugary pop (i.e. 'Big Me'). From there they went progressively 'meh' and top 40ish bland, with a few exceptions as far as individual songs go. Album-wise, there is an exception. 'Sonic Highways' is a brilliant album. If I remember right, it's a free download. Interesting story behind the album. I think HBO did a documentary.
I view Pearl Jam the same way. They have some really great songs and a whole bunch of crap. That cover of the 1960's song 'Last Kiss' is possibly the worst thing ever recorded, but of course 'everybody' loves it. Ugh.
Nirvana was influential, but their music just hasn't aged all that well with me. I still like some of their songs, but not nearly as much as I was into them in high school and college.
Agree that Chris Cornell was probably the best of his time.
Temple of the Dog is not to be missed. Mother Love Bone too.
It was a cool time in music. And fun being from the northwest and having local/regional music become really big.
R.I.P. To all members of the 27 Club.

Whenever a girl stops replying to my texts, I text her those exact lyrics.
+1
Chris Cornell I hold in the highest regard of all those mentioned. And its great to see someone recognize the amazing talent there. Andy Love and Mother Love Bone have some wonderful songs. "Chloe" and "Star Gazer" come to mind.
