Hmm, maybe you're right. I think I'm looking at this from a distance runner perspective. So the guy who said I was out of my element is probably correct.
I just read this article on how much Degrasse got from Puma after going pro out of USC . Dude got 11million up to 30 million ( based on incentives).
I stand corrected .

I didn't say it hurts athletes to do a one and done, NCAA. It would not have hurt: Phil Housley, Kobe Bryant or Lebron James. The more I think about it, the more I like the MLB model. If an athlete thinks he is good enough to play major league baseball out of high school, go for it. If an athlete thinks college ball is better, go to college. No one makes a shame of college baseball. A young man is not allowed play MLB until four years after high school graduation if one decides to play college baseball. The MLB model would work fine for T&F.
Why is this better? Just because?
The MLB rule is that you must complete three years following your HS draft.
I think the Lyles brothers also received a multi-million dollar contract through the year 2020 right out of high school. Noah Lyles has always been stellar, but he was certainly not quite as good when he left high school as Sydney is now. She'll get the world record within the next year or so, and you can tell that she knows that it is well within her reach. She is talented, intelligent, well-spoken, and (this won't hurt her marketability) undeniably very beautiful. I'm thinking she sees something like eight figures, but she could definitely be looking at more than a million dollars a year.

This video just made me want to buy whatever she's selling.
Damn, she's going to do well!
I love her. I want her.

You and thousands of others. But, she's 18. A kid!

What a tool. 18 is not "a kid." Even a kid with an exclamation mark after it (I imagined the incredulous tone you seemed to be going for with the added punctuation, as if she just turned 13). It's the age of majority, the age of consent in most places (where it's not younger). You can fight wars. You can get married. You can vote. You can serve on a jury. If you are arrested and go to jail, it's an adult facility you're heading to, not "juvie."
Many Playboy Playmates are 18. The playmate of the year in 1964 was 18. It's not a new thing to find a young, ADULT woman to be attractive.
So no, an 18 year old is not a kid.... but an 18 year old can adopt one.
Sud is going to get north of a million a year. Spoke w/2 of the top agents at NC’s last night. Versatility will get her paid well.

Your point, you will correct me if I'm wrong seems to be, it's best for athletes the way it is regarding going pro when they want and making a shame of NCAA track and field is ok. It's not best necessarily for NCAA track and field. Force the talented athletes to make a decision out of high school: college or pro. One and done doesn't really benefit anyone.
You do realize she is into women only....she is not attracted to the opposite gender. Watch her interviews and the way she conducts herself.
She is gonna get PAID. 125k? 250k? LMAO
She's going to be one of the main faces of the 2020 Oly games, book it. A shoe company would be dumb not to lock her in now.
I am sure with an olympic year where she can rake in 2 gold medals......movie star looks......she will make $5-$10 million before its all over.
After the 2020 olympics she will have 5 or more endorsement deals worth a truckload of money

None of you knows what you are talking about. She will sign for closer to a million (if not more) than a quarter million. Sprint $ is good, and Sydney could be the replacement for Allyson Felix.
This. 125, 250, etc. delusional.
Shes going to sign for more than Wheating and Centro ever got because its all about marketing and potential.
Whoever brought up Christian Coleman is lost. Syd is worth many multiples of him.

Lmfao, you have no idea what you’re talking about
There is maybe a handful of people in athletics currently more marketable than Syd and she has been limited by college so far, by the end of next track season she will be the most popular runner in the world

Absolutely. I’m crossing my fingers that she doesn’t stagnate or regress as a result of injury or personal difficulties. If she continues on her current trajectory, she will be the face of track and field for the next two Olympic cycles.
- Broad name recognition among the Milesplit/Instagram HS runner crowd
- Strong performer physically and mentally
- Articulate and attractive (more so than Felix, the last phenom/standard-bearer for American TnF)
Makes sense. I always remember one of the US sprinters who said (choosing to try to play American football than run in the Olympics): 'I'd rather dash for cash than run for fun'.

It certainly helped both the University of Kentucky and Sydney McLaughlin this year.
I'm not sure about the 750,000 figure, but I think you are underestimating how much someone like Sydney would get.
She was amazing in high school, and yet she has improved a ton this year. That and she has a strong social media presence. She has ~80k followers on twitter alone. That's pretty strong for someone running an event like the 400m hurdles. Additionally, a lot more high school-age kids know who sydney is VS other top athletes. It also certainly doesn't hurt that she is pretty attractive.
We know how much Boris Berian was offered. Somewhere in the realm of 125,000 if I remember correctly, and while he did rise to the relative top pretty quickly, he was nowhere near as big a name as Sydney, or nearly as marketable overall.[/quote]
Showing my age here. but I don't see how "likes" and "followers" translate to anything real. 80k is a real number, but of that 80k how many really follow after the initial click?
having said that about likes and follows, I do feel that whatever T&F athletes make she will be one of the highest paid.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
