She announced it in the mixed zone. Her one year at Kentucky was simply amazing and it looks like a really good decision.

Definitely. Syd's the whole package. I can't wait to see her on the world stage. Again.
How much is she worth ? She does have the whole package and will make some money
I give her $ 250 K a year - 4 year deal with bonuses!

She aint getting that. 1st year she will have to prove her self. I can see her getting around 125,000 plus incentives. That's a good start for an 18 year old.
hot as hale

400 and 400h records are doomed!
SYDNEY MF'ING MCLAUGHLIN
She will probably get at least double or triple the $250 per year. Maybe more. She doesn't have to prove jack. She already has. It's called marketing. Get it?

Much more.

You guys really over- exaggerate the contracts that are offered to track and road running athletes. You would be surprised to how much top running athletes are making per year, and a lot of it is incentive based. Runners don't purchase track shoes or running gear because a top runner is wearing it. The tech sells itself.
In basketball, kids wear what the pros wear as urban gear, so nike needs to pay tons of money to nba stars. Their influence is what sell basketball shoes....
It's not like that in running.
250 Base plus 125 - 150 in bonuses = 375 - 400 K a year
I don't like NFL &/or NBA forcing lads to attend college for a year if they do not want to attend college. I also do not like individual athletes treating NCAA as a one year minor league. If Sydney McLaughlin's goal was to be a pro track athlete, why didn't she go pro straight out of high school as did Ajee Wilson, Kobe Bryant, Vashti Cunningham, Phil Housley and Lebron James?

You're out of your element.

She's now got her training group. The experience at UK was invaluable to her.

I'm not saying that she will not get that over time, but I don't see nike handing out a quarter of a million dollars to Syd. She is a beast, no doubt about it. I could see 125,000- 150,000 the first year and increasing over the years.
How much did Christian Coleman get? Dude was on the champion stage at USAs and WC in his first pro year. He was already world wide as a sprinter, and I don't think nike gave him a quarter of a million.
Syd is not known world wide like that.

I'm not sure about the 750,000 figure, but I think you are underestimating how much someone like Sydney would get.
She was amazing in high school, and yet she has improved a ton this year. That and she has a strong social media presence. She has ~80k followers on twitter alone. That's pretty strong for someone running an event like the 400m hurdles. Additionally, a lot more high school-age kids know who sydney is VS other top athletes. It also certainly doesn't hurt that she is pretty attractive.
We know how much Boris Berian was offered. Somewhere in the realm of 125,000 if I remember correctly, and while he did rise to the relative top pretty quickly, he was nowhere near as big a name as Sydney, or nearly as marketable overall.

Again, how much did nike give Christian Coleman. That would give a better understanding of what the standard is for a big, big young star runner.....and Syd is nowhere near the level that Christian is right now in his first year as as pro.
None of you knows what you are talking about. She will sign for closer to a million (if not more) than a quarter million. Sprint $ is good, and Sydney could be the replacement for Allyson Felix.

Close to a million, in her first year as a pro?
We need some clarification here from someone from Nike, or who is familiar with the type of contracts that Nike gives athletes.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Sydney McLaughlin's is going to be the most marketable US track athlete out there. She's going to be very well compensated. The fact that you even invoked in the earlier post that she needs to prove herself indicates that you are completely naive to how this all works.
I didn't say it hurts athletes to do a one and done, NCAA. It would not have hurt: Phil Housley, Kobe Bryant or Lebron James. The more I think about it, the more I like the MLB model. If an athlete thinks he is good enough to play major league baseball out of high school, go for it. If an athlete thinks college ball is better, go to college. No one makes a shame of college baseball. A young man is not allowed play MLB until four years after high school graduation if one decides to play college baseball. The MLB model would work fine for T&F.
