Even though this was 4 years ago I’ll bite.
OP was clearly looking to make a change, there’s a difference between being overweight and doing nothing about it and actively trying to make a difference. I make fun of people that are mentally fat (it’s my genetics, I’m born to look this way, I’ll eat whatever I want, I know people that sit around all day and eat and they aren’t fat so it’s not my fault, working out is a waste of time) but those that are physically overweight and actively working to do better deserve more respect than anyone. It’s extremely hard to make that lifestyle change and not see results for a long time.
I was also overweight when I started my running journey, and support and encouragement from my teammates made such a big difference. They didn’t judge that I was a chubby 30 minute guy, they just constantly told me that if I stuck to it, I’d lose the weight and I’d get a lot faster, and I did.
