Hmmmmm, let's see... The Olympic Marathon Trials, the Olympics, Boston, Chicago... yeah, those marathons always have the most watered down fields.
This post just shows how absolutely ridiculous LRC'ers can be when it comes to discussions surrounding Galen Rupp.
Is Nike protecting Galen Rupp?

Of course, Nike is managing Rupp like a product. They want the best return on their investment. If they had sent Rupp to Berlin or London for his marathon debut, it would have been a slaughter. Instead, they made the US trials his debut against an inferior field of US Olympic hopefuls. The result was a big confidence booster that helped him get a medal in his first Olympic marathon. Keeping him away from Berlin and London after that enabled him to incubate his marathon talent and score wins at Chicago and Prague. Now, he is probably going to shoot for the AR in Chicago and use that as a stepping stone to take a shot at Kipchoge in London at least once before 2020. So, yes. Nike and AlSal are protecting Rupp but more to make sure he can have time to properly develop his talents and not waste any races trying to chase the WR and Kipchoge until he really is ready to do it.

I support Galen, and he is the best that America has . There isn't another american male marathoner who is on his level.
He won a bronze at the Olympics in the marathon. He won Chicago, was the runner up in Boston, and he recently won Prague with a PB of 2:06. From a far, that's a quality beginning to a marathon career. However, with a closer look, is his path being dictated by the overlords at Nike to put Galen in a position to win?
Are they making sure that he will not be in a race with other runners who have serious 5k/10k speed, or pure blazing marathoners? Are they protecting him from the likes of Kipchoge, Farah, Karoki, Kamworor, Bekele , Kipsang, etc?
What are you thoughts on this?
Its a money thing. He gets a lot more to run the American majors and they blow their mens budget on him making it tough to afford any of the other top guys.
London has the money to afford Rupp along with the others but it probably doesn't make sense for them to match the money Boston is willing to pay Rupp. -

The idea is to run a fast time. KK ran London. Hall ran london.
So now Galen gets a pass, and should stay away from the other Marathon Majors?
This is nuts.
He just ran a fast time, yet idiots like you still aren't satisfied. His PR is now 10 seconds faster than Hall's (record-eligible) PR. After 2008 Hall never ran London again. Do you think he was a coward for running American marathons for the rest of his career? Do you think Meb was a coward for running Boston and New York every year? -

The only way that letsrun will be happy with Rupp's career is if he runs Berlin and London, wins, sets the world record, and also does a sub-2 effort. Otherwise, he will never be good enough for letsrun.
It's true that he has not stepped on the line against the stacked fields of Berlin and London in the prime of his career (which could be now for all we know), but those marathons may not offer the best financial reward for him or even his own personal preference. Rupp and his team could care less what we think is best for him and that's completely understandable. -
After the Watergate break-in, it took ~26 months to get Nixon out of office following less than two years of investigations and hearings. As of next month June 2018, the investigation into ONE man and his small NOP program will have taken THREE YEARS with no conclusions yet made. OF COURSE Nike is protecting Salazar/Rupp/etc. Remember, Nike OWNS the sport, quite literally, with the deal they made with USATF. It's an effing joke.

+1. Scorpion_runner is clearly trolling HARD. -

I would say the idea is to win races and to make money. -

If he did all that imagine the backlash over the drug allegations. -

USADA investigates the doping actions not USATF.
Do you think Nike owns USADA as well? Because I would say the Lance Armstrong case (a much bigger star than Rupp) throws cold water on that idea. -
I just wish Chicago went back to having pacers. I would rather see Rupp run a 2:04 or 2:05 in Chicago, than in Berlin at 2 in the morning.
A 2:04 by an American on an American soil would be massive. -

He'd still get bashed on Letsrun -
ask this question
is nike protecting Dr Rosa? -

Meb did the same thing that Rupp is doing, running mostly championship races and skipping London and Berlin. I’d take Meb’s career over Hall’s. -

We don't regard Meb as the greatest american marathoner of all time. Meb is a hero because he ran the right way( never took PEDs and was never associated with PED users), and he really got on board with promoting running in america.
Rupp is chasing all time greatness as an american marathoner. His target is KK, so in order to accomplish that feat he is going to have to go down that same path.
KK ran london 4 times, and he beat possibly the greatest marathoner of all time while while breaking the record in London.
So don't give me that s h i t. He is clearly being shielded my Nike, and if he never does London or Berlin, then he will be labeled as a runner who feared the fast races and fast runners so that he could cement his legacy.
He is a runner who is in his prime, and has being doing the marathon for 3 years now, and he has yet to even mention running London or running Berlin. That's a problem, no other way to spin it, Spidey.
Also, Meb never did Berlin or London because he knew he wasn't fast enough for those races. Rupp is a sub 13 5ooom and sub 26 10000m runner, which puts him in the elite speed category as a distance runner. Fast runners run fast races, unless they are ducking races. -
correction: sub 27 10000m runner

I think he gets an obscene amount of backlash for that already, for good reason, so that will be the only thing left to complain about if he vanquishes everyone and everything. I mean, it's pretty much the only thing that people have to complain about with Kipchoge, aside from not having the official world record. -

Meb was a better marathoner than Hall. He could run whatever race he damn well pleased. -

Meb was awesome, but he wasn't a blazer. He definitely had more success than Hall as far as winning goes, but Hall had the better times, and was feared by east africans.
Mutai stated that no way would he have run 2:03 if wasn't for Hall taking it to the field. That's an east african stating that about an american runner, the ultimate endearment and respect. -
He didn’t run as fast as Hall because he always ran Boston and New York (both of which he won). His 2:08 in Boston 2014 is comparable with Hall’s London and Boston tailwind times. WTF is a “blazer” - you need to stop watching so much Without Limits. Meb was better, period.
But Hall was still awesome.
