I support Galen, and he is the best that America has . There isn't another american male marathoner who is on his level.
He won a bronze at the Olympics in the marathon. He won Chicago, was the runner up in Boston, and he recently won Prague with a PB of 2:06. From a far, that's a quality beginning to a marathon career. However, with a closer look, is his path being dictated by the overlords at Nike to put Galen in a position to win?
Are they making sure that he will not be in a race with other runners who have serious 5k/10k speed, or pure blazing marathoners? Are they protecting him from the likes of Kipchoge, Farah, Karoki, Kamworor, Bekele , Kipsang, etc?
What are you thoughts on this?
Is Nike protecting Galen Rupp?

It is no secret that Salazar and Rupp are the favorite sons of Nike Founder Phil Knight.

Breaking News: American runner continues to run American marathons.
More money, more prestige (to the general public which is what actually matters - not the 25 people on LR)... it's an easy choice. -

come on, he could run at least NYC for a change to mix it up. that's just lame. boring guy. -
NYRR doesn't invite athletes who they know to be under USADA/WADA investigation or associated with coaches under an anti-doping investigation. NYC Marathon isn't an option for the Oregon Project. Chicago is sponsored by Nike.

Is that true? If so, that's a pretty bad look for NOP. Can't get invited to races cause they are sketchy. -

Why not put yourself in situations where you can be competitive/win? I don't understand the point of putting yourself in races where you're a mid-packer elite. No one is going to remember you as the 7th place finisher, but they will remember who won.

The idea is to run a fast time. KK ran London. Hall ran london.
So now Galen gets a pass, and should stay away from the other Marathon Majors?
This is nuts. -

It might help to look at the list of athletes have run the NYCM. -

What are you thoughts on this?
1) His coach is Salazar. Regardless of the circumstance, Rupp will have to run Boston.
2) Rupp is the defending champion at Chicago. Chicago will likely have the highest appearance fees for getting him back.
3) Nike has multi-million dollar contracts with a legion of athletes (basketball players, football players, etc.) all of whom make more and provide more exposure than Rupp. That people think that Nike would even CONSIDER leveraging manpower for something with so little return is absurd.
Sponsoring professional T & F athletes is a charity case for Nike. Not a business deal. -

I'm not even remotely convinced that BTC is any more or less clean than NOP.
And the NYRR might wish to reconsider their position, if this is true, as it has been proven ineffective. See Paula Radcliffe. -
I'm pretty that the NOP raison d'ĂȘtre was to get Americans winning American major marathons again. Rupp does this.

Lol! The more I thought about this statement the more it doesn't make sense.
1. Kipchoge is sponsored by Nike.
2. Rupp raced Kipchoge in the Olympics. -

This. Nike doesn't care what Rupp does. Salazar decides. Nike makes probably zero dollars off of Rupp as he's not very marketable. And HE RAN THE FREAKING OLYMPICS. He wasn't being protected. -

Your obsession with Galen Rupp seems unhealthy and bordering on mental illness; have you considered seeking professional help for this? -

If this is true then what does this say about Boston? They invite the entire NOP squad.
Where does NY draw the line? They invite Rosa athletes, they invite athletes that Josh Cox works with. They somehow see Alberto as dirty because he is under suspicion? But not any of the Rosario athletes who have now had a positive test from a past teammate in Jordan Chipagama? See what happens with the slippery slope when you pick and choose the level of what you consider cheating?
The reason that NOP does not go to NY is because Chicago is a Nike event and will pay more for Rupp and Hasay. Simple as that. NY would take them both in a minute and justify there decision just like they have with others with questionable pasts. -
