I'm 12 days out from an HM and my legs are feeling pretty good so far (knock on wood).
Is it a bad idea to 'run by feel', especially when my 'feel' is usually on the faster side?

Sure, just put a ceiling on the volume.
Cut back on volume, but keep up the intensity.
So, ideally, you would watch your pace, but if you are going to err, err on the side of too much intensity, not too much volume.

Easy days should always be easy, especially in your case and for exactly that reason.
Do your intensity only on planned intensity days, for pre-planned distances and at pre-planned paces.
