How do we know if the suitcase is filled with a million dollars if the suitcase is not open?
Exactly.
Drug money? ?
the only way there's that much money left in a suit case is due to a crime, so those criminals are going to come looking for it, and they will eventually find out who found it, or the few people that had a possiblity of finding it, they will then shake those folks down until the cash is found. so you may get the cash but eventually you'll get some thug cutting your throat or hurting your family. that means the BEST answer is:
1. just leave it alone.
2. second most boring, turn it over to the police (after you tell the press so the cops dont steal it)
3. stow it away and don't touch it for years and years
You'd probably have to launder it what with all the blood and come on it.

First thing I thought of when I read this question. In this situation you have to ask yourself who is the ultimo hombre.

Cormac McCarthy did not invent this. it's called a "trope" for a reason.
cheer.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BriefcaseFullOfMoneyIf you did find a suitcase will a million and took it ... would you be able to keep it a secret?
Obviously harder for those with families than those who live alone.
Could you not utter a word of it to anyone?
Would you jack in your job?
Would you be able to spend it without asking people how you can afford stuff?
While waiting for the blood to dry, I would get some pics, post them here, and then look around for 8 heads in a duffel bag.
I'd assume it be some kind of prank and take a pisss followed by a shitt on all of it.

Also, since the blood on the suitcase was still fresh, when I picked it up, I would put my running talent to good use. I probably would set a new 5k PR getting away as fast as I could.
What took so long? Two chicks at the same time is the correct answer.
I recently watched No Country for Old Men, so...... yeah, I'd just keep running. But faster.
I fantasise about that when I go hiking but then I think it might be waiting there for somebody to come and collect and that somebody might not be the most compassionate person on the planet. So I think I would leave it be.
Take 20 gs and move out. By the time they notice the trail will be dead
Not a suitcase of money, but there's a real life story about tons of marijuana to be recovered after an airplane crash into a lake in Yosemite in 1977. There's a 2,800 post thread on Supertopo about it, with stories of what happened to the many people who went to get some. Camp 4 was suddenly full of nice, new tents, climbers got new shiny Econolines, some people started companies that are still in business. There's a two part story in this thread, and the 2,800 post thread can be found by searching supertopo for "1977 airplane crash":

The wet blood would probably make me stay away.
But, if I were so inclined to risk it all, I’d prob take off my shirt, wrap the money in it so I can run with it quickly and run the quickest way to safety.
Not so fast! Back in the late 1998 or 99 i cant remember well now, an senior citizen couple found a sack with 600,000 in chash near White Rock Lake, Dallas Tx.
They called the cops, the money was impounded for 6 months pending the righful owner to claim the loot, if no one claims it its for the finders to keep accoring to the law at the time. Well, nobody vlaimed it, they kept the loot but had to pay taxes as income on it. Still not bad for a walk in the park.
