I am glad to see someone so genuine, nice and respected will have a dignified retirement in San Marcos. As a resident of San Marcos who has run in Coach Scott's Cougar Challenge five times, volunteered at one of his track meets, run in the Carlsbad 5000 (that he created) 12 times and met him in person, as well, I cannot really think of many people who really make track and field and even cross country still great as much as Steve Scott.
Witnessing the type of coach he was, I could see how well his athletes did....some even coming in between 25-26 minutes for a division 3 (at the time) 8k.
I wish him well in his retirement. He has done so much for the legacy of San Diego's North County...and for that and his great attitude, we love Steve Scott.
D1 coaches also have to be good salesmen to get good runners to their program.
