My take on folks' training and racing --
Stone Cutter -- Monster workout on Saturday. Hoping for good weather on the 29th. What's planned for your taper?
RRR -- You have me a little worried about my GoMeb Speed 4 shoes. Maybe not so good on a rainy day. I have no races over 10 miles on my schedule, so they should offer plenty underfoot. Tried them on the treadmill only so far.
Pappy -- I hope you get your knees sorted out.
Back into it -- Looking forward to reading your Boston survival/triumph story.
Tall dark roast -- Congrats on the fine impromtu race. Had it been on your radar, or did you see it on the schedule at the last minute? I just spotted a race in May ... certified course ... only a half-hour drive away ... Dare I race in just five weeks?!
Runningforfun -- What were your recoveries for the 6 x mile? Planning another workout this week, then a taper?
Gordon T -- That foot thing is weird. Hope you get it solved soon.
pewow -- Are you looking to win that upcoming 8K? Maybe spring will finally arrive before then. It's a winter wonderland here, and I am sick of it. Almost out of firewood, too.
Sub 6:00 -- Your 10-mile "easy/moderate" run yesteday sure looks good to me. Sub-16 on Friday!
Bdubs -- How challenging was the VO2/MP workout? Is that from Daniels?
Working Harder -- What is the foot diagnosis, again? Sounds horrible.
hanph96 -- Wednesday and Saturday were planned "off days"? How far ahead do you plan your schedule?
Bobo_UK -- How much mileage planned for the last taper week? Best wishes for Sunday!
outsiderunner -- Some impressive numbers, despite the heat and wind. And that solo 17:52 5K is a great confidence boost. Boston 2019 beckons ... and it's gonna be perfect weather next year!
angryjohnny -- Looking forward to reading your race report. Hope you have a good group of cooperative 2:40 guys as you deal with that wind!
above_average_joe -- Huge congrats on a fine race and the new PR. Loved your write-up.
Pretzel Man -- You gotta give us a race report after this one!
jewbacca -- Baby yourself this week. And have a great race on Saturday. Rooting for you!
consistency -- If I was running your workouts and mileage, I would be VERY confident of sub-3. And I wouldn't be worried about logging miles at marathon pace. During training, I feel there is no such thing ... you're not tapered, there's no race magic, etc. Running 6:50 on race day is a completely different thing.
JamesTheAmateur -- Are back-to-back workouts something you'll be scheduling regularly? I haven't tried that since high school ... seems risky.
Still Improving -- Remind me what your goal race is. Regarding this week's VO2max workout, I think reducing the volume makes a lot of sense if you're still feeling beat up.
Epimetheus -- 113 miles. Wow. Any racing planned in the short term? Are you a college student?
statfanatic -- Be patient. You can do a decent workout on the elliptical. Thanks for the comment. I am becoming more optimistic about racing this year.
DietBacon -- That 75k sounds brutal, and only a week after your marathon! Regarding my knees and achilles, they weren't too bad during my workout, but a little worse the next day. And during Friday's long run. In general, though, still improving.
Coach Jeff -- Welcome to the 50+ club. So, maybe you and OR going head-to-head M50-54 at Boston 2019?! My Tuesday workout was great, thanks for asking. So good to be back moving again. Had a 4 x 1-mile workout planned for today, but the roads and trails are still ice-covered. And 30 mph winds.
