Well with a winning time of 2:16 and 17 runner's finishing it's not something to get overly excited about. Don't know him but he does put everything into winning the Comm games but still waiting for him to run a truly elite time for the marathon.

One thing not mentioned here, but Steve Cram kept mentioning, was that the water bottles had plastic seals (to avoid "contamination"- I guess for doping control) that Hawkins in particular seemed to have some trouble opening. Makes me wonder if he skipped a bottle or two out of frustration.
Yeah I thought that was completely crazy, you could see the runners chewing the bottles open with their teeth early on. Surely it discourages people from drinking as much as they otherwise would & should?
The "contamination" makes no sense to me, given you don't know who's going to pick up each bottle. Has a "no-unsealed-bottles" rule ever been applied anywhere else, or is it an Aussie invention for when the temperature is above 25 centigrade? What if someone injected something nasty with a syringe into a closed bottle?

Looking at it again, he missed a bottle table just after a water shower station about 4 km to go. He didn't attempt to grab a bottle, just ran straight past.
He opened a bottle at another water table 1 hour 45 minutes in and poured the contents over his shoulders and head. May have been better off drinking some of it.

Neither win was a fluke. The marathon is about appropriately pacing yourself to get to the finish in the given conditions. He is the person who did that first so is the deserving winner. No fluke, just a smart race in brutal conditions. Unfair to indicate it was in any way undeserved.
The Officials and medical staff have the authority to help the athlete to their feet. The medical team also has the authority to give immediate medical attention without the athlete's request and remove the athlete from the competition if necessary.

Sure, in Kenya they would've robbed him off his essentials then trown him in the ditch. Perhaps an arrow to the knee, typical Kenyans.
Seriously kiddo, why do you even come to this site if you hate all white people? I'm sure there are plenty of forums in Africa.
I seriously doubt he "hates all white people" but if I were him, you'd make the list for sure. USA USA USA!
He has a long history on Letsrun for making every post about how badly white people/the western world treats kenyans. Its never ending.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
