The first two shows of the Runner's Digest with Toni Reavis live from the Boston Tracksmith Trackhouse are in the books. The final live show is Sunday at 3pm.

In show #2: Shalane Flanagan's mom, Cheryl Treworgy, was on the show as was Edna Kiplagat's agent, Brendan Reilly, and Bob Hodge. Plus a recap of the BAA Miles and 5ks.

In show #1 we previewed Monday's races more traditionally and gave the scoop from the pre-race press conference, plus talked with Scott Douglas about running as therapy for depression.

I stopped listening to Part 1 a minute and a half in when they tout this is going to be a conversation about the elites and then, in talking about the competitiveness of the American field, say the last time Americans won both the men's and women's fields were in '83 and the last time an American woman won was in '85. "And that's where we stand."

No, that's not where we stand. Meb won in 2014 and it was a glorious American win considering it was the year after the bombings. And it wasn't an under the radar win. All mainstream media covered it, and it made Meb draped in the American flag the one pro runner recreational runners could name. The above makes it seem like they don't really know what they're talking about, so I stopped listening.

And no, editing it to "American-born" would not make a difference. Stop trying to define "American-born" as "white." If you want to say "white" or "non-African" just say that. Stop using "American" as the catch-all phrase for "slow European genes."

Wow - it is the worst audio EVER for a podcast, at least for the episode in which the road miles were being discussed. (Maybe the earlier podcast was better?? Hope so.) It was like trying to eavesdrop on a private conversation in a crowded bar. Hey, that's essentially what it was! The technical preparation was abysmal, and that's a damn shame, because I'm a fan who wanted to hear what was said. God knows there aren't many opportunities in our sport for listening to banter (though one poster admonished them for their points of view regarding Meb and American marathon prowess in recent years).

I wish I could say otherwise, but I had to give up quickly. Tony is a seasoned pro, so I don't know how they could have let such a fifth-rate podcast go public.

No, runnnerr, I'm not whining, but I am disappointed.

The second half of the 1st podcast that discusses the connection between running and depression and mental health is very interesting stuff. I think many will find it intriguing and confirming.
