I don't get it. There is way more strategic thinking involved in sports like basketball, football and soccer than in distance running.
Football players have more to memorize and way more dynamics to deal with . Basketball is also very strategic. Socce, same.
Distance running is: "Can I run X amount of minutes, tolerating a pain up to some Y threshold while at every minute keeping sure not to cross Y threshold of pain." In other words, it's very one dimensional, 2 dimensional at most in terms of strategic thinking involved.
And don't give me the line about the game changing for the pros...at ALL levels in the 3 sports I mentioned, you're doing a large amount of strategic thinking.
And I say this as a runner myself who has only played soccer among the 3 sports mentioned.
