Bump. I just ordered a pair. Are people still happy with them?
Very. On vacation, packed lightly, only brought one pair of running shoes, and chose these. They have been great for daily runs, intervals, everything.

Hey Jeff, Is the fit of the heel counter the same with the original Escalante's ?? (I had issues of heel slippage in the originals)
I didn’t have the same issue you did, but I can see where someone might. The heel collar on the E is a little plush, stretchy, and clumsy. The ER is much cleaner and secure.
I am not convinced the E was originally even designed for running, with how stretchy the upper is; I think it was a happy accident how much people loved the Ego midsole. The ER, on the other hand, is much more secure all around (and lighter and more breathable).

Great shoes for great people hehe. I'm glad you found a pair to match your greatness.

I would have to go to the website and check.
Report back, soldier.

That makes sense. The Escalante always seemed more like an “athleisure” shoe to me. If I am to ever get another Escalante then it would be the racer.

How much firmer is the midsole? I'm fine with no drop, but the Escalante's midsole is too boingy for me most days. The Escalante Racer is enticing, because I've thought the Escalante would become my daily shoe if it weren't so soft. New Balance 1400 is the best sweet spot I know of, of some softness but not too much. Thanks for any insight.
I agree I found the midsole became too soft after 200 miles and no longer had much if any energy return.
BUMP.
How are these for actually running a Marathon? I see comments up to half, but wondering if it would work for anything longer
thanks

I ran my spring marathon in these, they were great! Great balance of light weight, cushion, and energy return. PR'd by a few minutes, obviously not just because of the shoe, but I recommend them.

I have run 18 in them, and they were great. Plus, I am a bigger dude.
An efficient runner could definitely use these for a 26.2.
Thanks for the feedback. I am used to low drop shoes, but my last marathon I used the Kinvara 8s and they were dead by the last 10K. I've enjoyed Altra's Vanish Rs but I wouldn't use them past 10K.
Just saw that my local running store has an Escalante 1.5, which supposedly has an updated, sleeker heel cup for a better fit. I was hesitant about buying the original Escalante because of the sloppy or non-existent heel cup. Has anyone tried the 1.5? Is it really an improvement in fit?

There is a helpful review on RoadTrailRun. Haven’t tried it personally, although I could imagine doing all slow stuff in the Paradigm 4, quality stuff in the E 1.5, and racing in the E Racer, depending on the quality of the E 1.5’s upper...

Thanks. Just checked out the review. It sounds promising, although neither of the reviewers thought it could be an "everyday" shoe. 130 bucks is a bit steep to just wear the shoe 2-3 runs a week. I may wait for the price to drop a bit. The V1 is already down to about 80 dollars.
Necropost. Just got my first pair of Altras, the Escalante 2, and am digging them. Have 50 miles on them thus far. Sounds like the E2 is firmer than the E1 and E1.5 from everything I’ve read.
My question is if the E2 is firmer than the E1 and E1.5, how much firmer is the Racer than the Escalante 2? I have quite a ways to go before these are worn out but pondering if I should look into the racer as their replacements if they’re basically the same feel, just lighter.
I never got on with the Escalante 1.0 for similar reasons to The Jeff. But they are my favourite walking around in shoes!
The Escalante Racers have been great. I rotate a lot between them, Solstices, Kayentas and some old One 2.5s I have still.
Many of the old colours are $70 now too.
They really intrigue me. I have a preference for firmer shoes (Squishy, cushy shoes and me don’t mix) and would want these as a daily do anything shoe. I rotate between some On Cloudflows (the new ones) and a pair of Skechers Razor 3’s. I missed the boat on the $70 Racers, they’re all back up to $140.
I haven’t done workouts or long runs in my E2’s yet, still slowly working more mileage into them, but again, if the racers basically have the same level of cushion I may replace them with the Racers.
You probably Had the wrong size. With altras you can fit close to toe tips compared to the extra inch plus with conventional lasts.
