Take for a minute and realize how amazing it is that Bernard Lagat is running the World Half Marathon champs this weekend for the USA.
He got a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics, 18 years ago. He was 25 then. Now he's 43.
The US is pretty damn good at the half-marathon and he's on the team at 43.
He ran 62:00 at Houston this year and the 40+ world record is 61:01 by Haile Gebrselassie. Lagat would have run faster in Houston than his 62:00 if he hadn't gone out so hard. He went out with leaders (60:00 was the winner).
With some better pacing he could challenge the master's WR this weekend.
