He hid the treasure years ago and has given a poem and clues as to where it is, but nobody has found it...he said people have come within 200ft of it.

New Mexico or Colorado. He said in an interview it only took him an afternoon to drive out, hide the treasure, and come home.
I thought many clues point to Yellowstone, which is where someone recently died searching for it.
Pretty cool that he did that.
There’s no treasure. He’s a liar.
It's got to be in Yellowstone...all the clues point there. I want to take a road trip there now.
No, it's in Colorado (if it exists at all).
Why not Montana? Isn't there good fly fishing there?
Anyone still looking for this? I wonder if drones would be useful since he left it out in the open, supposedely.
Anyone else think it's in Montana?
It's been found! The article doesn't say where though.

Was there a treasure? It all seems like a scam. Do you think the finders would not want to come forward after looking for it for a long time period? They would be wanting to be on every news cast.

They probably want to make extra money off a book deal or something.

You'll be the target of begging letters and hangers on wanting to share in your riches.
Had to be in the Pecos Wilderness near Santa Fe where Fenn lives.
Easy to get to but remote enough.
Been in there many times. Very beautiful.
That's where I thought it had to be all along.

It is an interesting dilemma. If I found it, I'd be stuck on a few questions:
- should I publically announce it? On the one hand you point out some people might come out of the weeds trying to get a piece of it. On the other hand, it might be kind of fun to do some speaking engagements, maybe somebody would want to do a short documentary on it, etc
- donate it? I'm not rich, but I'm secure. A sudden windfall would make me feel a little guilty. Maybe I could donate a portion?
- is it taxable? Maybe it's considered a gift from a living person, so isnt taxable? I dont know these laws. Maybe it depends on jurisdiction?
I found it and I will keep it all.

If it were me, I'd find a lawyer first to answer at least the last question. Even taxed at 50%, it's still a nice bit of money.
There are those still suspicious as to whether he ever actually hid the treasure, and that it has been found. Might just be a way to turn the heat down, supposedly there are several lawsuits against him due to people dying trying to find it (their fault, but still).
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
